Sandokan debuts on Rai 1 and RaiPlay on 1 December will go ahead for 4 weeks (under the total bets) and then will be on Disney+ streaming, will be distributed worldwide by Fremantle and Spain by Mediterráneo Mediaset España Group. The TV series is produced by Lux Vide company of the group Fremantle, in collaboration with Rai Fiction, was born from an idea of Luca Bernabei. Of course it is a new adaptation of Emilio Salgari’s historic novel saga, developed for television by Alessandro Sermoneta, Scott Rosenbaum and Davide Lantieri, and directed by Jan Maria Michelini and Nicola Abbatangelo.
The filming of the series was held in the Teatro 7, of the productive pole of Lux Vide, and between the island of Reunion, Lazio, Tuscany and Calabria, where the English colony of Labuan was built in Lamezia Terme, with the support of the Calabria Film Commisson. Sandokan la trama
Borneo, 1841. In a world dominated by the colonial power of the British, Sandokan is a pirate who lives the day. Solca the China Sea next to his faithful friend Yanez and their pirate crew, a group of adventurers coming from the four corners of the world.
One day, during a consignment to a cargo of the Sultan of Brunei, Sandokan frees a mysterious Dayak prisoner, an indigenous people long oppressed. Man believes to recognize in Sandokan the warrior of an ancient prophecy that will hold his people from the yoke of foreigners. Sandokan does not give weight to this: he is only a pirate who loves freedom; This is how he lived his life until today. But everything is about to change because during a bold incursion in the British Consulate of Labuan, Sandokan meets Marianna Guillonk. Marianna is the young daughter of the English Consul. It is known as the Pearl of Labuan for its beauty but also for its indomitable character that pushes her to refuse the rich suitors who love her hand.
The encounter with Sandokan awakens in her the spirit of adventure that the rigid cages of Victorian society have always repressed. That between Sandokan and Marianna is the encounter of two worlds that could not be more different. An impossible story, apparently. But there is nothing impossible when two hearts want the same thing: freedom. Among the two, however, Lord James Brooke, the shady and charming “rather hunter”.
Brooke is not the usual rich merchant, nor a career military, but a daring adventurer who, at the head of his frigate – the Royalist – sows the panic among the pirates of all south-east Asia. An ambitious and brilliant man, Brooke captures Sandokan’s crew and tracks their captain.
Brooke is willing to stop Sandokan, gain power and conquer Marianna’s heart. Who is not indifferent to the charm of that man.
At the end of the day, everyone will have to make a choice: Marianna, divided between Brooke and Sandokan, will face the darkest sides of his world and decide what he really wants; Brooke must measure his boundless ambition with his most vulnerable sides; Sandokan, from a simple pirate who lived the day, will be called to turn into the Tiger of Malaysia.
Sandokan is a story of adventure and love, in which the protagonists will discover themselves and understand to belong to a much larger story, made of revolution, love for nature and struggle for freedom.
