Fast X tonight on TV a self-celebrative film that eats itself – The review

The history of the Fast and Furious franchise is particular, sad, interesting. What today is considered his face and his absolute protagonist, Dominic Toretto, has not always been the center of narration. Before him he was the character of Brian O’Conner played by Paul Walker, then disappeared. Starting as a B movie for car and racing enthusiasts, Fast and Furious has turned over the years into a spectacular and international colossal, with a global breath.

Fast X will air tonight Monday 8 December on Italy 1. The film is directed by Louis Leterrier, written by Justin Lin and Dan Mazeau and produced by Original Film, One Race Films, Roth/Kirschenbaum Films and Perfect Storm Entertainment.

Fast X, la solita storia (più o meno)

Starting from some movies ago. When Dominic and Brian stole an entire safe in Rio de Janeiro, dragging it with their cars and destroying everything around them. Now, the son of man who was wrong on that occasion, and who lost his life, seeks revenge. And he doesn’t just want to kill Dominic Toretto, but he wants to make him suffer, annihilate him, hit him where he is weaker: the family and the desire to help others even at the expense of his own life. This is why this antagonist, called Dante, begins to recruit Dominic’s old enemies, organizing inscrutable traps and launching into a sadistic pursuit, unscrupulous even towards an 8-year-old child.

Fast X, un cane che si morde la coda

The operation is clear. Giving a final (or the first part of a final, since another film should see the light in 2025) to a saga loved by all over the world, which brought on the big screen a family of characterized and known, sympathetic or antipathic, who continue to disappear and return. In Fast X there are all, or almost. A sort of reunion in sympathy, a nostalgic reunion, which draws the line and expands the universe only from the people of the saga. A suffocating autocitation, which leaves no room for the new and that makes claustrophobia come. A Dragon Ball episode in which all the old villains come out, but the new villain is so strong and cruel that everyone trains against him, being overwhelmed by his destroying force.

Fast X, la scrittura non ci interessa

Dante, played by Jason Momoa, works to some extent. The truth is that Fast X is a very weakly written film, full of holes, from dialogues onwards. The truth, however, is that it doesn’t even matter that it is well written and screened. The nostalgia operation, the sense of a friendly return, there are. It’s a bad movie, who knows what he does and clearly has his target. So, that’s okay. The only thing? He could take a little bit less seriously. Then yes, that would become enormously more fun and enjoyable.

Il cast

Fast X sees Vin Diesel as the protagonist in the role of Dominic Toretto. Next to him many friends of the franchise. From Michelle Rodriguez (Letty) to Tyrese Gibson (Roman) passing through Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges (Tej), John Cena (Jakob), Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang. Scott Eastwood, Daniela Melchior, Alan Ritchson, Helen Mirren, Brie Larson, Rita Moreno, Jason Statham, Jason Momoa and Charlize Theron. If you don’t mind.
