Orzowei – The son of Savana for the first time in home video with Dynit

In December, for the first time ever in Italy, it is available in home video thanks to Dynit the cult television series Orzowei – The son of Savana. From the novel Orzowei, the white son of the Piccolo Re of Alberto Manzi, became one of the most followed programs by Italian television in 1977. He received great public success and remained in the collective memory of many.

Filmed in Kenya between 1974 and 1975, the film was initially planned in South Africa and Uganda. However, the two governments did not grant the necessary authorization. The script was written by Alberto Manzi himself, inspired by his eponymous story.

Orzowei – Il figlio della Savana

Directed by Yves Allégret and set in colonial Africa, the series tells the story of Isa (played by Peter Marshall), nicknamed Orzowei. He is a white boy abandoned as a child and raised by an African tribe. Despite his education and values learned in the village, Isa is never really accepted: for blacks is a stranger, for whites a different. The struggle of the young Isa to find a place in the world becomes a universal metaphor for the conflict between cultures and the desire for integration.

Peter Marshall disappeared prematurely in 1986 in a car accident in South Africa. Alongside him, they act international stars: Bonne Lubega, Stanley Baker, Doris Kunstmann, Vincenzo Crocitti, Giorgio Dolfin, Oliver Litando, James Falkland and Robert McIntire. The director is of Yves Allégret, to which in 1987 the César was given posthumously to his career. The cast was also completed by real members of a Masai tribe and theatrical actors from Nairobi.

Built in 1976 as a European co-production, Orzowei – The son of Savana gained great success. The merits were his exotic setting, the epic tone and the famous musical theme that we all remember. The unforgettable soundtrack consists of the Oliver Onions (at the century the brothers Guido and Maurizio De Angelis, famous especially for the music of the films of the duo Bud Spencer and Terence Hill. The two received prestigious awards, including the Silver Ribbon), while the eponymous song of the title reached the first place in the singles chart in Germany in 1977.

In Italy RAI transmitted Orzowei – The son of Savana in thirteen episodes, of average duration of about 25 minutes including the anticipation of the next chapter, from 28 April 1977 in the preseral band. Since 1982 the series was no longer broadcast in Italy or abroad. Now Dynit is proud to bring for the first time to Italy from December on DVD a great classic of television. A cult series to date unreachable for the many fans who consider it a legendary product that marked an era.
