The award-winning director Steven Soderbergh, who debuted with the film Palma d’Oro in Cannes Sex, lies and videotape and then directed comedies into the collective imagination (Magic Mike and the trilogy of Ocean’s) and films of enormous success (Erin Brockovich – Strong as the truth and Traffic) comes back with a psychological horror, entirely shot in a single location, which makes live the unique and impressive.
Presence: il film e l’edizione home video
After having aroused great enthusiasm of the Sundance Film Festival and the release to the cinema, Steven Soderbergh’s Presence is now also in home video in an elegant and simple edition, including outdoor cardboard and booklet behind the scenes of the film. Too bad for extras: special content only includes the trailer.
The Payne family looks like a perfect family. When the life of the younger daughter Chloe is upset by a tragic event they choose to move to a new home, out of town, to start from scratch. Soon, however, the girl realizes something wrong with her room; At first the family does not believe it, but it will change its mind when the events become impossible to ignore. As their daily reality begins to crumble and tensions are amplified, a disturbing presence observes them and influences them, silent but increasingly close.
The director also curated photography and editing, to increase the sense of claustrophobia and to take advantage of the theme of the haunted house, a narrative topos rediscovered in recent years within the genre.
