Warner Bros Discovery made the first important move in view of the arrival of HBO MAX in Italy scheduled in January, and announced in recent months the first original TV series of the platform taking Portobello on the case of Enzo Tortora directed by Marco Bellocchio. A few months ago when Our Films, which produces, announced the project in 6 episodes it was specified that it would go out to the cinema, an omitted passage in this Warner ad.
Of course it is the first original Italian scripted production of HBO Max, because the Warner Bros platform has all the products of the Real Time/Nove/Food Network world on the unscripted front. Despite all the baggage of HBO titles that will take you back, despite the Harry Potter, Warner Bros eventually felt the need to take a classic biographic fiction (which makes so much Rai) to launch his Max platform. And not only because it will be presented at the Venice Film Festival, a great style launch for the platform.
The 6-episode miniseries is the first series produced by OUR FILMS, a production company part of the Mediawan group, founded by Lorenzo Mieli and Mario Gianani. OUR FILMS produces with Kavac Film, in co-production with ARTE France and in collaboration with The Apartment Pictures, a company of the Fremantle group. Portobello will be on MAX worldwide in 2026 excluding France, Germany and Benelux.
Portobello, la trama
The series in 6 episodes tells the story of Enzo Tortora, the famous conductor of the television program “Portobello” – aired since 1977 for seven editions – accused by some collaborators of justice to be part of a chamorrific association dedicated to the traffic of narcotics. Tortora was imprisoned and tried for years before he was definitively acquitted of any charges.
1982. Enzo Tortora is at the peak of success. He leads Portobello and reaches 28 million spectators in the first evening, all waiting for the competitor who will be able to make the parrot speak, guest of honor of the broadcast.
