The great flood: a damp disaster movie – The review

It’s Christmas week, but apparently in the head we have the flood: The great flood conquered its first place in the top ten of Netflix and does not seem willing to give it up to Christmas classics or Benoit Blanc. But is this latest film by Kim Byung-woo worth the vision or is it just lazy second-screen watching Christmas material?

The great flood: apocalisse verticale

Seoul, like a lot. The scientist and single mother An-na tries to dexter herself among the thousand responsibilities of life: prepare the son Ja-in for school, watch his designs and reassure the mother on the phone. Until it becomes clear that what they are living is not a simple day of bad weather: soon the torrential rain turns into an apocalyptic flood that begins to swallow a plan after the other of the palace where they live. The flight to the top is complicated by the general panic and the thousand shades of humanity (from the most beastly to the most tender) that are revealed in every emergency situation. But An-na is a researcher on a crucial project for the survival of humanity, the mysterious Emotion Engine, and this role could offer a special escape route for her and Ja-in..

Un film…che fa il film

The great flood is one of those movies that is very difficult to talk about. It actually belongs to the most difficult type of film to review: those who are…substantially okay. They do what is written on the package in a relatively competent manner, without great infamy but also without particular praise. It is there, on our screen and in our streaming app, and it makes us spend those 100 minutes that promises to occupy, but it is not much more than a means to obliterate a piece of afternoon. Which, depending on the individual feelings of each person on coming home for the holidays, could be a positive or negative thing.

Perché guardiamo i film?

As we touched in the previous paragraph, there are a thousand reasons to watch a movie, and they are all legitimate. It is worthwhile, however, to question what we are preparing to look at, and why: because if on one side it is absolutely ok to put in line two or three damp and anonymous movies on our app to simply pass the time, it is also true that often the streamers use these “liness of less resistance” to give us not what we want or what we need, but what works best for their metrics and their productive ecosystems. Each film is a tool that we turn towards ourselves: We are always aware of what we want him to do.

P.S. if you cannot stay without your dose of Korean cinema, stay tuned: in a few days we will have a real chicca coming out directly from the Country of Ibisco.
