The house of ghosts, a fantasy pastiche that does not lay the screen – The film review tonight on TV

Disney stories come from different impulses. There are historical ones, always, which are interpreted and reinterpreted over the years. Then there are those that instead draw inspiration from the attractions of the theme park, such as the Pirate franchise of the Caribbean, very fortunate, and as La Casa dei Fantasmi, a new adventure that after the passage to the cinema and on Disney+, arrives on Rai 2 Tuesday 30 December but that we fear will be a little less fortunate.

Directed by Justin Simien by a screenplay by Katie Dippold, the film is interpreted by an exceptional comic cast, but it is not enough to save him from the confusion he is victim to. Too bad. The film is produced by Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich (Aladdin). Nick Reynolds (Easter Sunday) and Tom Peitzman (The Lion King) are executive producers.

La Casa dei Fantasmi, la trama

Ben is a lost in love scientist of his wife, who organizes guided tours to discover the supernatural. Something bad happens, and some time later Ben is disillusioned and very lonely, and he no longer believes anything. At his door knocks a strange exorcist priest, who asks him for help for a really serious haunted house case. Ben convinces himself, and he goes to the ghost house.

Find a mother and a son who wanted a new life and instead are terrified and need help. Ben tries to pretend that everything is okay, but the supernatural forces at stake are very powerful, and to beat them it will take a real team of paranormal experts.

La casa dei fantasmi, la recensione

Sometimes, the cast isn’t enough. Sometimes, it takes a well-made script, a director who knows how to get the best out of the actors, a plan that does not consist in pulling a million things to the wall and what attacks, which is so good the same. This film is a lost opportunity, a waste of potential. It is neither harmful nor offensive, yet it does not leave the mark, succeeding in being at the same time too much and too little. The only engaging parts are those that concern the death of loved ones. At the end of the fair, all these people who have been victims of the paranormal are nothing but human beings who have suffered a mourning and do not know what to do about it, do not know how to deal with it. The final is sweet, but it would have been sweeter if only one character had been written well enough to get us engaged. Whatever.
