Zvanì – Il romanzo famigliare di Giovanni Pascoli, la trama
The story begins in 1912: Giovanni Pascoli died and a train departs from Bologna for his funeral with students, authorities and relatives, including his sister Maria, called Mariù. The journey reflects the mourning of the country, where people of all social classes pay homage to the poet of whom, through the memories of Mariù, life is retraced: the murder of his father, youth marked by poverty, political commitment and complicated relationship with Joshua Carducci.
But, despite personal and political difficulties, Pascoli graduates and, after years, embraces the sisters. They live together, but family dynamics are woven: Ida, more independent, leaves her brother to seek a life of his own. Giovanni, famous but unhappy, retired with Mariù in Castelvecchio, where the train that takes him to the burial crosses a surreal space, with mysterious apparitions, as in his poems.

Le parole del regista
I didn’t worry about placing it in the ritual form of biopic. I’ve been trying to make a personal film, arranging my instincts. Instinct often has its reasons, its logic. What did I do? I’ve added some point of dialogue, I’ve been looking for a set-up solution that would allow me to tell the scenes of epistolary exchanges with words and looks in the car, also inserting the interventions of some characters in the film, who look in the car and say something significant about Giovanni Pascoli’s life.
Then I dedicated myself to the actors, especially to the young actors of the film, with the dedication and satisfaction of always, and I could choose them freely, without pressure or special requests. With passion equal to mine, they jumped generously into this adventure. We shared many moments together, of study, of tests, with them I also shared all my anxieties and my granitic uncertainties. I found new friends, new street mates.
