Fabrizio Corona: I am news, on Netflix more than a documentary a long spot

This is not an article about Corona, but on the system that keeps giving him voice.

Is it right to make a “docuserie” on Corona? No. Is it fair to talk about it if it’s been made by Netflix and they’re watching millions of people? Alas, yes, and I can’t exempt myself from doing it, even if a part of me repeats not to give visibility to a product on a similar character.

Fabrizio Corona da docuserie a spot

It starts well what initially looks like a docuserie on Corona: a reconstruction of Italy of the first two thousand, with references to the life and career of Vittorio Corona (the father), remand to Costanzo, Berlusconi, at the birth of Mediaset, in Vallettopoli: it seems an interesting investigation on a split of Italian pop culture that we still pay the massacres. Complicates an excellent installation and impeccable video reconstructions, I then proceed to the vision of the 5 episodes, but already before coming in half I understand the trick, which naively I had ignored: just as for the series on Bossetti, this terrible experiment is not a docu, but a spot on Corona, from him masterfully guided, who chooses to tell – as his usual – only what suits him. To seem – still and sadly at his age – the “bad boy” so much agonized in these years.

Of the prison, of the “sue” women (as he calls them, as they were his property), of some characters of the showbusiness: Netflix allows him to tell only what makes him comfortable, only details, moments, details, a script written to art. Because Corona can communicate, he can write, he can act perfectly.

It does not dwell on the last years of prison, there is a hole, from 2018 to today, which ignores facts such as the diagnosis of borderline personality disorder associated with narcissistic tendencies, shelter in a nursing institution, abuse of psychopharmaceuticals, transfer into psychiatry after he cut off the wrists. Darkness, on that only part of true (perhaps) fragility, disease, disorder, that which could partly prove to be a mere explanation at the bottom of the horrible things accomplished over the years.

And so, this spot in Corona, first in Netflix charts after a few hours, becomes a long, endless episode of Falsissimo, but transmitted by the platform with more subscribers in the world. And once again we are here, in this country to the detriment, to idolize false myths that bring to light a medial system – the Italian one – increasingly in the balance, increasingly less credible. We’re here, to give voice to those who should just shut up and be ashamed of everything he’s done. We are here to show to those who idolize him forever, only what is best to him instead of looking for a different key to reading, who tells the reality of the facts and condemns the people who feed deplorable myths.
