There is a television genre that never dies and is destined to last over time and is that of the yellows (or crime to avoid using the Italian wording) whodunit-chi was, Agatha Christie – The seven quadrants from January 15, 2026 on Netflix is the only demonstration. The three-point miniseries, in the typical format of the English productions of this genre, is the adaptation of the novel The Seven Dials Mystery in its original, which the queen of yellow wrote in 1929 as a follow-up to Chimneys’ secret in which the character of “Bundle” Lady Eileen was introduced.
The adaptation, approved by the Christie family, was made by Chris Chibnail, remembered and appreciated especially for Broadchurch, sees in the cast Mia McKenna-Bruce as the protagonist, Helena Bonham Carter in those of his mother and Martin Freeman in those of Inspector Battle.
During one of the many holidays in a country house in 1925, one of the guests, family friend, dies after a strange joke. While the inspector begins to investigate with his methods, the young Bundle decides to engage firsthand in the investigations discovering a whole series of buried secrets and an unthinkable plot.
I sette Quadranti per gli amanti di Agatha Christie
The adaptations of the novels of Agatha Christie always have their charm. They are one of the most accomplished products in the UK by English authors, perhaps the only ones able to give the right ironic nuances, also present in novels, because it is an integral part of their DNA. Although there are neither Miss Marple nor Hercule Poirot, The Seven Quadrants do not disappoint fans’ expectations thanks to the usual well-built and seemingly inexplicable mystery (the crimes in the closed rooms are a great classic of the Christie world). The protagonist, interpreted by Mia McKenna-Bruce, gives the series a younger, fresh taste with the intent to bring a different audience to approach this genre, but without discontenting adults (and presences of safe faces like Bonham-Carter and Freeman in this sense help).
For this reason the Seven Quadranti is a successful operation that balances the desire to rejuvenate Christie’s world with its established tradition. But everything seems almost too perfect, studied, prepared, transforming the elegance and refinement of the world Christie into a covering plastic that ends up uniforming everything losing leashes and surprises. A good product that lacks a really decisive boost. Vote 6.5 Riccardo Cristilli
Una serie bella ma che non balla
On 12 January he just spent the 50th anniversary of the death of Agatha Christie: What better chance then for Netflix? Bringing out this series close to this date will be one of the many trends of the moment: are blossoming bookclubs on the queen of crime, reading groups, events and “social” occasions to celebrate it, but despite the freshness of the protagonist of the series, I don’t know if and how much this novelty will conquer the younger audience. The Seven Squares last three bets, the time to look at it and forget it, despite it’s a delicious series.
Impeccable in photography, scenography and dialogues; linear and in Christie style in the development of the plot; cozy to the right point for those who love crimes with “strong female protagonists” – how could Netflix define it in one of the many editorial strings that puts on the homepage. A series that does its duty without too many pretensions, which has a decline in rhythm in the middle of the second episode, but that with a final studied art opens the doors to an ambitious proseguo. I saw her, I found her pretty, I went to something else without thinking too much. Vote 6.5 – Giorgia Di Stefano
