I have to be honest. The rip surprised me. Not so much because he does something unexpected with his premise (spoiler: he does not), as for the fact that he takes it seriously. The action-thriller in fact is one of those genres that more than others have been affected by the slopification of recent years, accusing us to an infinite series of ‘register films’ that are limited to taking a premise and making us the minimum necessary to fill 90 minutes.
In this case, however, the stakes are clearly established, characters and dialogues have a minimum of dimension and the doubt is the master: The rip is not afraid to put and question the cards at the table, holding the viewer on the thorns and hitting it with a series of twists that I must admit I did not expect. To do as oil that lubricates this mechanism is the chemistry between Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, both in bearded and a little lame, who manage to sell the relationship between two old colleagues who no longer know if to trust each other.
