Il Sesso degli Angeli review: Pieraccioni’s “old style” comedy does not go beyond the surface

Il Sesso degli angeli is the film by Leonardo Pieraccioni that is now close to the threshold of 60 years has passed from “one film per year to one every two years” for age and fatigue limits, as the same actor and director told during the presentation of the film before the release to the cinema last April.

After passing through the rooms and then on Sky and NOW streaming in October 2022, Saturday 25 January 2026 is on Rai 2. Leonardo Pieraccioni is once again the protagonist, next to Sabrina Ferilli “I am entrusted to him and his style for the elegant comedies” and Marcello Fonte chosen immediately after seeing Dogman and initially reluctant but considered by Pieraccioni the ideal for the role of the naive sacristan who discovers life. The film tells the story of a provincial priest who inherits a rich activity in Switzerland. When he comes, he’ll find out it’s a legal dating house.

Un’idea brillante al centro di Il Sesso degli Angeli

The idea of Il Sesso degli Angeli is brilliant. Pieraccioni told that she was born almost by chance while together with Filippo Bologna was working on another subject “but do you think how spicy the story of a priest who inherits a bordell0?”. While not knowing the other idea, the subject of Il Sesso degli Angeli actually works and enjoys. The paired Pieraccioni – Ferilli could recall a tired audience in the room and the 400 copies thought by 01 show a remarkable trust towards the product.

The film touches several sensitive themes such as religion, ses0, legal prostitution, elegantly and never dark, leaving the most sheep in the hands of the usual Ceccherini, a little too stuck in that spotty role. Not by chance during the presentation Leonardo Pieraccioni spoke about the need to reopen closed houses “I visited them in Switzerland. The girls bill, they are followed, assisted” which makes sense to leave everything in the hands of crime.

He also urged himself to talk about the marriage of priests saying favorable (with the manager 01 who invited, jokingly, journalists to holder on these issues so as to generate controversy and curiosity). Too bad that all this in the movie is not there.

Un vorrei ma non posso, la recensione

Leonardo Pieraccioni’s film exploits the contrast between the world of a modern priest, who makes Lady Gaga feel in church, and that of the girls who do the oldest job in the world, to create fun comic moments. But then it leaves everything on the surface. Ending up, indeed, to get stuck in an easy moral to reach the inevitable happy ending so dear to an Italian comedy typical of the years ’90/’00.

The character of Marcello Fonte is too absurd to be true, a kind of grown child who struggles to find the right rhythm within history. Sabrina Ferilli has a role tailored to her, not by chance Pieraccioni told how it was their first choice, but seems a little too tight in a stereotype.

In conclusione

During the presentation of the film Leonardo Pieraccioni underlined how “the comedy is another category, we are jumpinbanchi, I do not seek prizes, I want to entertain people.” A claim that no one disputes, well come the beautiful comedies throws thoughts. The sex of the Angels, appears too anchored to formulas of a comedy surpassed with that his search for the simple, good, bonaria laughter, but that at the same time always seems restrained, as we were afraid to dare.

The movie has fun moments. Altogether it works and can intercept a public of nostalgics (and fanatics) of Pieraccioni. But it is too light, like the feather of an angel’s wing. Vote 6-
