Wonder Man is the new Marvel miniseries coming on January 28 on Disney+ with all 8 bets (about 30 minutes) immediately available. The TV series is part of the sixth phase of the WTOU but is considered a Marvel Spotlight, a category used for TV series focusing especially on a character and which have no direct effects on the overall balance of the universe. And maybe this is the ideal formula for Marvel seriality.
Considering how the current cinematographic and serial scenario is complex, between platforms and exit planning, probably the idea of a single Marvel universe is beautiful in theory but difficult to apply in a practical sense. It is not an heresy to say that this attempt of interconnection has failed, failing to find the right balance between TV series braked by the need not to unravel too much regarding the films, that vice versa, could not take too much from a seriality that perhaps not everyone had seen. A more autonomous serial way, which has its own soul though inserted in the Marvel mega universe is probably the most correct choice. Two parallel straights flowing without touching.
The dream (but here we return more to the personal sphere) would be a return of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or have a similar TV series, long term, from which to derive miniseries and that only possibly could touch the films. That’s why Wonder Man looks ideal because it’s a series that has its references to the Marvel universe (starting from the character of Trevor Slattery of Ben Kingsley) but has a strong autonomy. In which we talk about superheroes but without having to look for the epicity of films, trying to give life to more human and earthly characters.

Wonder Man, la trama
Wonder Man’s plot is as simple as possible. It tells the story of an actor, Simon (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), who tries to find the right role to sink, dreams of doing something more but most of the time is lost in his search for perfection. Fortuito meets Trevor Slattery and discovers that a famous director is looking for the protagonist of his remake of Wonder Man, his favorite movie ever. Simon and Trevor will end up fighting to get the role and everything will take an unexpected turn.
Perché funziona
Wonder Man works because he plays with irony and lightness with the world of cinema and superheroes. It brings us into the lives of actors looking for a role, of those who want to realize a dream but it seems never to get anything. It tells dreams, hopes, illusions and disappointments and introduces supernatural elements gracefully, through small flashes, images in the background that slowly make us remember that we are inside a Marvel series.
Wonder Man works by subtraction, makes all the organic elements to the story built in a comedy format that lightens and facilitates vision. It is not a TV series designed to be great, imposing but to tell a life of a seemingly normal person. Simon is not a hero, he does not want to be, he just wants to be an actor but he is not told he will succeed. Wonder Man is the perfect series to introduce a character into the Marvel universe without imposing it.
