The ladies of flies, on Sky and NOW the BBC series from the creator of Adolescence

The Lord of the flies, a novel by the Nobel Prize William Golding (published by Mondadori) has become a four-point television series created by Jack Thorne winner of various Bafta awards and creator of Adolescence, directed by Marc Munden (The Mark of Cain, National Treasure, Help). Thorne worked closely with the heirs of Golding to make adaptation as faithful as possible to the novel. The series debuted on 8 February on BBC and IPlayer, will be presented on 13 at the Berlin Festival and will be on Sky in two evenings on 22 February and 1 March.

Commissioned by Lindsay Salt, Director BBC Drama, The Lord of flies is a production of Eleven and One Shoe Films, backed by Sony Pictures Television for BBC iPlayer, BBC One and Stan. The series is written by Jack Thorne, directed by Marc Munden and produced by Callum Devrell-Cameron.

True to the original novel, set in the early 1950s on an unspecified Pacific island, the version of Thorne further deepens the emotional themes of the book: human nature, loss of innocence and masculinity in the age of adolescence. Each of the four episodes takes its name from a central character in history – Ralph, Piggy, Simon and Jack – offering a slightly different perspective on the collective condition of the boys and the way they face their situation.

Il signore delle mosche, la trama

A plane falls on a deserted island in the middle of the Pacific. Dead all adults, survivors are a group of children and (pre) teenagers, suddenly immersed in an extremely problematic situation, which forces them to give themselves the rules of cohabitation. The construction of their random and unforeseen community starts from one of the first objects found: a shell blowing in which it is possible to call everyone to collection for all decision-making processes.

Unfortunately, the young age and lack of rules plays the group a bad shot when the fire that had decided to keep on the highest mountain of the island to signal a human presence to the ships and passing planes, is neglected just at the moment when a ship could notice it. This fact ends up dividing the groups already emerged among those who seek easy solutions to complex problems and those who do not abandon rationality and rely more on intellect than force, an element that over time, however, takes over.

Il Cast

The cast of over 30 boys, many of whom at their debut, is led by Winston Sawyers as Ralph, Lox Pratt as Jack, David McKenna as Piggy and Ike Talbut as Simon. Other actors, including Thomas Connor as Roger, Noah and Cassius Flemming as Sam and Eric twins, Cornelius Brandreth as Maurice and Tom Page-Turner as Bill.

Le musiche originali

The original music of the series was created by three of the most important and celebrated artists in the industry: composer Cristobal Tapia de Veer (The White Lotus, Smile, National Treasure) created the soundtrack, while Hans Zimmer (Dune, Planet Earth, The Lion King) and Kara Talve (The Auschwitz Tattooer, Prehistoric Planet) composed the main theme and additional music.

La programmazione

The four episodes of The Lord of the flies will be released on 22 February and 1 March on Sky Atlantic and NOW.
