Pillion at the cinema is not a film suitable for everyone. This must be immediately premised to avoid misunderstandings and above all sterile polemics of those who are now living only on this. Once you read the plot and see what circulates around if you go to see it you must be aware of what you are doing otherwise you are looking for easy provocation and contestation.
Written and directed by Harry Lighton, presented at Cannes and Torino Film Festival, Pillion is the adaptation of Adam Mars-Jones’s Box Hill novel, a romantic comedy immersed in the BDSM world and the relationships of submission and domination. Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood, The Northman) and Harry Melling (Harry Potter, The Queen of chess) are the extraordinary and hungry protagonists, Douglas Hodge and Lesley Sharp interpret Colin’s parents, a couple who would do everything for their son and the first to never issue judgments and live everything with the open mind.

Colin, shy and introverted, sees his life pleasantly overwhelmed by the encounter with Ray, charismatic and charming leader of a group of bikers. Between the two, a BDSM relationship is soon established, which sees Ray as the master and Colin as his most devoted submissive. It will be the beginning of an unusual and overwhelming love story, which will profoundly change both.

Pillion tells a powerful and overwhelming story of love, of those who change your life, who revolutionize it, who end up questioning everything. How many times have we heard the phrase that love has so many facets, this film shows it for the umpteenth time taking a different path, maybe less beat, but that it exists. Because this is sometimes forgotten, we live in a world built on images that are shown to us and which we have introduced in our lives, but there are realities that we do not know and that are often judged with the filter of conventional morality.
Colin discovers that he finds joy in his existence in devoting himself entirely to another, in living a submissive relationship in which he must carry a chain to his neck. Pillion thus becomes the description of a loving unconventional relationship in which the parties are recited in the comedy (or tragedy) of different life than those who think they are correct. At the base, however, there is always the well-being of the individual. And when this star well with each other gets into crisis, the relationship between Colin and Harry changes, evolves and Colin discovers another aspect of his life.
Pillion is a film not for everyone, to be seen with open mind and without prejudice, thus discovering a powerful love story, more true than many other patinate and romantic book. Because love is a feeling that comes from how you live it.
