Tonight on TV, Tuesday 17 February 2026, on iris will air in first sight Dead for a dollar, western thriller of 2022 by the star cast, presented at the Venice Film Festival in 2022. Christoph Waltz, Willem Dafoe and Rachel Brosnahan are the protagonists of the film in Santa Fe in 2021 directed by Walter Hill, already behind cult films such as The Warriors of the Night and 48 hours.
Dead for a dollar is inspired by spaghetti western and noir of the 1950s, two genres very loved by the director who managed to return cruelty and charm of the wild west at the end of ‘800. Within the Western framework, the film addresses modern issues such as racism, women’s freedom and justice ethics.
Dead for a dollar, la trama
This is New Mexico in 1897. The bounty hunter Max Borlund is hired to find and bring home Rachel Kidd, the wife of a wealthy businessman, Nathan Kidd, who apparently was kidnapped by an African-American deserter. But the truth is much more complex: the woman voluntarily fled from a violent marriage to be with Elijah of whom she fell in love. On the traces of Max there is also Joe Cribbens, an outlaw that the bounty hunter years before had arrested.
