On Monday, February 23, 2026 Iris will air the film Dunkirk. This is a film by the magician of non-linear narrative, Christopher Nolan, who for once leaves the science fiction ground to devote himself to the historical one. Dunkirk was appreciated by audience and critics in the 2018 film season, in fact he was nominated to the Oscars 2018 as best film and got three figurines for better editing, better sound, and better sound editing.
The film, released in the world theatres in 2017 and distributed by Warner Bros, has cashed around $526.9 million worldwide, with an estimated production budget of $100 million. In Italy the film has cashed €8.9 million. Here is a trailer:
Dunkirk, la trama
The film is set during World War II, and recounts the famous Dynamo Operation, made between May 27 and June 4, 1940. This is one of the most significant historical events of those years, which also contributed to the outcome of the war in favour of the Allies.
The film then focuses on the evacuation of thousands of Belgian, French and British soldiers to Britain. The soldiers were blocked, and encircled by the enemy, in the beaches of Dunkerque, the only escape route was the sea in front of them. Boarding operations take longer than expected and will also be slowed down by enemy air bombings, which will create panic and despair in soldiers.
After days of waiting and difficult times, the soldiers are taken to safety, but the governments use ships of any type: lucky boats, fishing vessels, recreational boats and lifeboats.
