In line with the Winter Olympics Milan Cortina arrives on Rai 1 and RaiPlay the film Rosso Volante dedicated to the figure of Eugenio Monti, skier and bobbista, double Olympic Gold in Grenoble in 1968 and fair play champion, who died in 2003. The film tonight on Rai 1 Monday 23 February is a co-production Rai Fiction and Wonder Film and Wonder Project, written by Silvia Napolitano, Giorgio Pasotti, Valerio Bariletti and freely inspired by the literary work “Rosso Ice: Eugenio Monti, behind the legend” by Stefano Rotta.
Rosso Volante la trama
Eugenio Monti, champion of bob, in 1964 is 36 years old. He won almost everything, but he misses the Olympic Gold. “Rosso Volante”, as the nickname Gianni Brera for audacity and hair color, is therefore decided to conquer the Gold to the Winter Olympics in Innsbruck. He realizes an exceptional time, but during the race he realizes that rival Tony Nash lost a bolt and, without thinking about it, gives him his. A gesture of great sports loyalty that allows the English to win the Gold, while Italy must settle for the Bronze.
For the exceptional example of fair play, the International Olympic Committee rewards Monti with the trophy Pierre De Coubertin, considered the highest award for an athlete. The episode of the bolt is the starting point of a story that traces the four years leading Eugenio Monti to win the gold medal at the Grenoble Olympics in 1968. Four years of tenacity, falls and hopes of a talented champion who has always challenged life. A history of sports, love, friendship, courage.
Il cast
Giorgio Pasotti is Eugenio Monti, in the cast we also find Andrea Pennacchi as Gianni Brera, Denise Tantucci in those of Linda Lee, Stefano Scandaletti is Sergio Siorpaes and with Maurizio Donadoni who plays Podar.
Il lavoro di ricostruzione
“To tell the two Olympic editions (Innsbruck ’64 and Grenoble ’68) we have studied the films of the time and faithfully rebuilt the space of the track and that used for the press,” writes Alessandro Angelini. “Despite this, we had the feeling that we missed something. And finally, in order to integrate and give greater credibility to the stage, we decided to insert in the film some pictures of repertoire”.
The director explained that he wanted to give a almost documentary cut to the races while “more static and contemplative in the moments when he tells the private life of Monti”.
