The Fall – Hitler’s last days is the film chosen by Rai 3 for the first evening of Thursday 26 February, to tell the last days of the dictator played in this 2004 film directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel, written by Bernd Eichinger, by Bruno Ganz. Der Untergang is the original title of the film that also has a 174-minute version beyond the 150-minute version. The overall cashout at the box office was $92.2 million. We discover together the plot of La Caduta – The last days of Hitler on the air tonight. The film tells us when a bombing hits Berlin on April 20, 1945, the Red Army advances into the city. On receipt of the fiftieth birthday of the Führer, Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler and his general helper Hermann Fegelein seek in vain to convince the dictator to leave the city but Hitler refuses. Himmler tries to negotiate terms of surrender with the Western Allies unbeknownst to Hitler.
Meanwhile, Hitler’s youth raises defenses, a boy Peter is pushed by his father to desert but categorically refuses. Hitler discusses with his architect Albert Speer about his new burnt land policy, while Eva Braun organizes a party for the inhabitants of the bunker, which is however interrupted by a Soviet cannon. It is only the beginning of those who are the last days of the dictator until the defeat of 30 April.
