In the previous edition, Robert Aramayo won the BAFTA to the best star actor and best emerging star for his performance in Kirk Jones’ latest film, I swear. An unexpected victory, clamorous, against the favorite Timothée Chalamet and Leonardo DiCaprio, and other actors recognized as Ethan Hawke, Michael B. Jordan and Jesse Plemons.
On stage to withdraw the award, Aramayo paid tribute to Blue Moon’s star, citing him in his thanksgiving speech: “When I was at school, Ethan Hawke came to talk to us at Juilliard and made an extraordinary speech about longevity as an actor, the protection of his instrument and the avoidance of self-destructive behaviour, and had a great impact on everyone in the room. So being in this category with you tonight is amazing. Thank you, Ethan. ”
And Aramayo has definitely followed Hawke’s advice on how to be a good actor, with a career lasting more than ten years during which, slowly, he managed to get more and more spaces in film and television productions.
Born Robert Michael Aramayo on November 6, 1992, he approached the world of acting at eleven when he joined the Hunt Truck Youth Theatre, acting in about three shows a year. In 2011 he won a scholarship at the Juilliard School in New York, where he continued with theatrical performances.
In the early years he splits between short films and minor roles in films such as Night Animals and Lost in Florence, until 2016, when he was chosen to play Eddard Stark in four episodes of Game of Thrones. This participation gives him a lot of visibility, helping him to appear even in the contour cast in many critically acclaimed films, including Galveston, The Standoff at Sparrow Creek and Eternal Beauty. In 2021 he starred in the psychological thriller miniseries Behind his eyes in the main cast, in the role of Rob Hoyle while from the following year he was Beldor in the super production of Prime Video The Lord of the Rings – The Rings of Power.
Reflecting on his career with Variety, Aramayo has on his work in important series such as Game of Thrones and The Rings of Power: “They are very, very different series. My work in that and this was very different. There, I recreated the young Ned that we all knew and saw. That was the job. While here, for the boys it is much more important – and this is what I love about them – that I study the First Era and put the legendarium at the base of my recitation. ”
Moreover, always in the conversation claimed that it was the dream of a life: “My manager reminded me when I once told him that if the Lord of the Rings had become a series, I would have liked to be part of it. When I heard about the show, I sent an email to my agent, asking: Please, can I audition for this? My deep, deep love for his work and for Elrond makes me feel really honored and really gifted to interpret it and to be part of it. ”
In the meantime, he continued acting at the cinema in contour roles, until 2024 when he was chosen to play the protagonist in Kirk Jones’ new film, I Swear. The director, as reported by the Daily Record, said: I immediately realized that Robert was the right person for the part. “And since the funding was structured in a certain way, I was able to choose it without having to justify the decision or ask for permission to others to do so – which is the purest way of choosing the cast for the film. That’s how it should be done. Many remain surprised when I say I never asked him to audition. I never asked him to audition, and this is quite unusual. Reflecting on his interpretation, which earned him two BAFTAs, the actor told Loud and Clear how he managed to do comics and truthfulness: “Great part of my work was dedicated to the creation of this guy with an incredible heart. John is a very empathetic and strong man, one who can admire. There are so many extraordinary qualities in him that I wanted to make sure they were there. I also wanted to show how his relationship with Tourette syndrome evolved with age. “
