Apparently, The man from Toronto may seem like the umpteenth American action comedy in which a smoky mess that has problems in life and work ends up in couple with a criminal but actually… that’s exactly what it is. Directed by Patrick Hughes, the film was produced by Columbia Pictures, Bron Creative and Escape Artists.
The script is by Robbie Fox and Jason Blumenthal. Originally, it had to be released in cinemas. In the end, however, distribution rights were sold to Netflix that released it in 2022, Sunday 1 March 2026 is on Rai 4.
La trama
Teddy works in a gym. Always looking for the invention that will make him rich, he is experiencing a new type of sports fight that calls contactless boxing. His wife supports him, but he continues not to get half of it: he is a mess, he does not plan anything and is not able to give a security even economic to his small family. For the wife’s birthday, however, she did things great: she booked a holiday in a small chalet, with a lot of spa.
The man from Toronto is a nameless mercenary who is paid fragrantly to extort information and torture on behalf of third parties. He lives alone, loves the kitchen and his only love is Debora. He just came home when he got a call of utmost importance. The next job is worth 2 million and will have to be completed in a chalet.
Following an exchange of identity, Teddy and the man from Toronto will meet and fight, ending to ally. We’ll see some good ones!
Recensione
This story is already seen. This soup is heated. The scheme is always the same, and does not offer any extra ledges to be forgiven. Woody Harrelson is very good in the role of the super killer manipulator with a dark past that by hand turns out to be shattered with women and a Thai fruit fan more controversial than there is, the durian. Kevin Hart is exaggerated and stains, at the limits of the discomfort. What’s new?
Humour is sad and retrite, but at least it is not offensive. Irony is facilona. The pair of protagonists has too little chemistry. This film, while not doing any active damage, is so insignificant that you don’t even know what to say about it. The effect is almost cartoonish.
The man form Toronto is an action comedy so simplified and reduced to the bone that looks like the parody of a comedy action. Convenient to fill almost two hours and nothing more. Too bad.
