New York City murder detective Vincent LaMarca forged a long and illustrious career in law enforcement. But in his last case, the stake is higher for Vincent: the person he is investigating is his son. He and Joey split up when Vincent divorced his wife and decided to move from Long Island to Manhattan where he built his entire career in NYPD. Vicent lives her life in solitude, keeping her girlfriend a short distance; the closest relationship she maintains is with her colleague, Reg, but remains always a working relationship.
As long as Vincent lives in the present, he fails to face the pain of his past – or his pain for leaving his son Joey. But this murder investigation is bringing Vincent home to Long Beach, where the past was eager to return. The heartbreaking memory that tortured him all his life – the death of his father, a murderer sentenced to death when Vincent was just a boy – still afflicts him. In the course of the investigation, he discovers that his unresolved pain and his failures as a father have profoundly influenced Joey’s life, and now his 18-month-old nephew may be sentenced to follow the same path of self-destruction.
