Released at the cinema on 21 November 2007 in the USA and on 7 December in Italy, it cashed approximately 100 million dollars in the USA and 1.3 million in Italy. The film is directed by Xavier Gens, written by Skip Woods and taken from the homonymous video game saga. The goal of 20th Century Fox that produced the film was to turn it into a saga but the announced sequel was not made and in 2015 a reboot with Rupert Friend came in the role of the protagonist instead of Timothy Olyphant and titled Agent 47.

As a hunter, however, he becomes prey when he finds himself in the middle of a political coup in Russia: due to a leak of news on his account, he is chased by the Interpol and the Russian SBB for all Eastern Europe.
