In the United States CBS prepares to say goodbye to a TV series that was a pillar of its palimpsest for 8 seasons and 156 bets but that in Italy it is practically unknown ( having only had a passage on Comedy Central): The Neighborhood. On 6 April on CBS and Paramount+ there will be the special A Farewell Special curated by Entertainment Tonight that will anticipate the season finale of 11 May.

Deadline has reconstructed between indiscretions and declarations, the reasons that led to the failure of the Buffy reboot. Buffy: New Sunnydale is a project that has been going on for years, strongly wanted by Chloe Zhao, director and fan of the series. Last year the pilot was ordered by HULU, produced by 20th and Searchlight (all of the Disney group), but according to deadline, this pilot had been judged not perfect and not memorable and had been rewritten by Nora and Lilla Zucherman.
It seems that that pilot was too focused on the new hunter, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, too teenage for Hulu and the demand for deadline is as it has passed between the different stages of approval, casting and shooting without anyone noticing these defects. It seems that the goal was to recreate that spirit of the original from low budget series for a small network.
But the result was then judged devoid of grandeur. The new screenplay seems to be more adult, for a 90-minute pilot, with greater presence of Buffy/Gellar, more a streamer series than a network. It seems that both 20th TV and Searchlight TV had well received the new version and everyone was just waiting for the order.
Then Friday night of last week came the call in which it was communicated that Craig Erwich head of Disney Television Group (which for a few days also includes the supervision of 20th) decided to block the project. There would have been no imminent deadline but all actors and screenwriters were waiting for an answer.
Sarah Michelle Gellar, who had yielded to Zhao’s proposal despite her retry to resume the character, told People that there was a leader who was strongly opposed to reboot because he had never seen the series, did not consider it a thing for him and according to different sources that person would be Erwich. According to some sources the new pilot would have been more expensive, perhaps too much and would have served more than $3 million to shoot the additional scenes with the risk then to realize that the problem was at the base, others that were still not ambitious. In any case, HULU has ensured that he does not want to abandon the idea of a Buffy reboot.

The TV series will tell the secret war between two factions, one who wants to keep the free will of men, the other who wants to control them.

Jane Levy, protagonist of Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, adds to the cast of the comedy without title of Dan Goor and Luke De Tredici of NBC with Jake Johnson and Keith David, a workplace comedy in the world of private investigators in Los Angeles. Levy will be Fayer, an investigative journalist who is a force of nature.

Tommy O’Brien enters the cast of the NBC Protection pilot drama created by Josh Safran (Quantico, Gossip Girl). In the middle of the series a family tied to law enforcement forces that ends up in the sight of a murderer after a marshal agent dies in service. The Thornhill family ends up discovering a conspiracy forced to betray its principles to discover the killer. O’Brien will be Micah Thornhill agent of the Secret Service, in the cast there are already Peter Krause and Hope Davis.
