Two veterans of Grey’s Anatomy will leave the TV series at the end of the current season 22: Kim Raver and Kevn McKidd are sacrificed on the cost saving altar. Grey’s Anatomy has not yet been renewed but the renewal for the season 23 seems certain also in the light of the fact that the production of the season is now finished and it is not possible to leave such a historical series without a worthy final. The 22 season is in progress in Italy on Disney+ and will end in the USA next May 7.
For several seasons the ABC TV series, like all the historical TV series, has to deal with constant budget reductions that affect the presence of the regular cast with the actors who rotate more and more often. Considering that much of Grey’s Anatomy’s fixed cast was contracted, Raver’s farewell and McKidd strengthened the position of others.
The choice was purely creative and not linked to the will of one of the two characters. Shonda Rhimes stated that fans will find the final chosen for Teddy and Owen, the happy ending they deserve. McKidd has been in the 18-season TV series, had arrived in the fifth, while Raver arrived in the sixth and then left in the ninth and returned to the fourteenth.
Meg Marinis, showrunner currently in the series, added that both could come back in the future: “It’s not really goodbye. We look forward to celebrating these two characters as they deserve.”.

Le dichiarazioni dei due attori che lasciano Grey’s Anatomy
Kevin McKidd: “Grey’s Anatomy was a huge chapter in my life, both creatively and personally, and I am deeply grateful for everything the series has given me over the years. Interpreting Dr. Owen Hunt and also working as a director on the show are experiences that have formed me deeply, and I had the privilege of collaborating with an extraordinary group of people throughout this journey.
I am particularly grateful to Shonda Rhimes for creating Owen and for the support he gave me when I started running.
Now that this chapter closes, I look enthusiastically at what awaits me: building new projects, telling new stories and bringing with me everything I have learned in the next stage of my career.”.
Kim Raver: “Interpreting Dr. Teddy Altman will always have a special place in my heart. Sixteen years ago I had the incredible privilege of joining this role thanks to Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers’ vision. Since that day it has been a real gift to give life to the iconic words of Shonda and our extraordinary team of screenwriters.
I am particularly grateful to the current showrunner Meg Marinis for his guidance and sensitivity, and I would also like to pay tribute to the talent of the showrunners who preceded her, including Krista Vernoff, whose contribution helped build over the years the path of Teddy.
I feel extremely fortunate for working under Debbie Allen’s brilliant guide, who not only made me a mentor, but also welcomed me to the direction. To my incredible cast companions and our tireless crew: sharing with you this trip was a privilege and I will always bring this team into my heart.
And fans: your dedication and constant support are the reason why this series continues to be so important. Thank you for making this set a magical place and a real home”.
