Sara (Minnie Driver), moglie di Abramo (Jeffrey Donovan) e madre di Isacco;
la sua servitrice Agar (Natacha Karam), madre di Ismaele;
Rebecca (Alexa Davalos), moglie di Isacco e madre dei gemelli Esaù e Giacobbe (Tom Payne);
le sorelle Lia (Millie Brady), prima moglie di Giacobbe e madre di Giuda, e Rachele (Blu Hunt), amata seconda moglie di Giacobbe.
Labano (fratello di Rebecca, padre di Lia e Rachele, zio e suocero di Giacobbe) è impersonato da James Purefoy;
la figura di Dio, da Corrado Invernizzi.
Cosa rappresentano le donne
Each of these women is the synthesis of a theological-clear theme: a role that goes beyond the family chronicle, to outline the way God works in history through humanity, often overcoming biological limits or social conventions. Sara, therefore, represents the divine promise that is realized despite sterility and advanced age. The story of Agar highlights the theme of God’s exile and protection towards the oppressed and forgotten. Rebecca plays a fundamental role in determining the line of descent through Jacob. Lia, the mother of six children, becomes a pillar of the Twelve tribes of Israel. Finally, Rachel’s figure is linked to beauty and motherhood, and is a symbol of intercession for her people.

Ep. 1 Sarah is married to Abraham, a man called by God to leave his land for a new promise: to become the father of a great nation. However, Sarah is barren and, not seeing the promise come true, she proposes to Abraham to have a son through her Egyptian servant, Hagar. Hagar remains pregnant and Ismaele is born, but this triggers deep family conflicts, between jealousy and sense of exclusion. Sarah confronts her fears, while God exhorts her to maintain faith in the miracle that she still has to arrive.
Ep. 2 Hagar, Egyptian slave and mother of Ismaele, is removed from Sarah’s house and finds himself in the desert with his son. Here, at the same time, he receives a divine announcement that promises her a future for both of us. The episode focuses on the passage from invisible to dignity: the pain of abandonment, the struggle to survive, the courage to rise. Between thirst, fear and hope, Hagar finds a voice, identity and direction for himself and his son.
Ep. 3 Reported by an absence in childhood, Rebecca grows waiting for a sign. The meeting with Eliezer, servant of Abraham, brings her the proposal for Isaac: she recognizes her as the waiting call and leaves. The arrival is traumatic: Isaac, still marked by the experience on Mount Moria, refuses it. Over time, a bond founded on vulnerability and trust arises; a revelation unites them and Rebecca chooses to remain. She later finds herself pregnant with two twins destined for the conflict: Yes, impetuous, and Jacob, reflective. The prophecy divides the house: Isaac supports the right of the elder, Rebecca sees in the minor the elect for the offspring. On the bed of death, Abraham reiterates the will of the Lord, rekindling a contrast that will mark the future of the family.

Ep. 4 Esau’, forced to marry the daughter of chief Ittita after violence, discovers with her an unexpected love. Meanwhile Isaac loses his sight and, feeling at the end, calls Esau to bless him. In the absence of the firstborn, Rebecca sends Jacob to her father and the blessing passes to the minor. When the truth emerges, Isaac despairs and Esau is ready to revenge; to save him, the mother sends Jacob into exile. Years later, Jacob returns unarmed: Even, fearing an overthrow with force, he goes to meet his brother with armed men. But Jacob asks for forgiveness. Esau’ welcomes him, embraces him and gives him his place, finally feeling free. The design chosen by Rebecca-that the minor prevails-found fulfillment, and the family reappears through a past blessing, an admitted guilt and a pardon granted.
Ep. 5 At Carran, the arrival of Jacob breaks a consolidated balance: Rachel, an enterprising pastor who guides the family flock, captures her heart; Lia, big sister and solid domestic figure, sees in him the last occasion of marriage. Laban, father of the two, imposes his agenda: taking advantage of the banquet and darkness, replaces Rachel with Lia in the wedding tent. At dawn Jacob discovers deceit, but customs bind him: he must recognize Lia as his wife. To marry Rachel, the man accepts the agreement of Laban-other seven years of work. The knot between love, duty and tradition is tightened: two sisters, an imposed pact, a compulsory choice that will mark the ties and future of the house of Labano.
Ep. 6 Jacob escapes from the wrath of Esau, and takes refuge from Laban. Here Rachel falls in love and serves seven years to marry her, but in the wedding night she suffers deceit: at her side there is Lia; a week later she also marries Rachel. The family expands: Lia is fertile, Rachel struggles and, between jealousy and remedies, a shared prayer opens the turning point and strengthens a tense relationship. When Jacob asks to return to Canaan, Laban promises and subtracts part of the flock; guided by an intuition attributed to God, Jacob selects and breeds robust garments, rebuilding the heritage. He departs with Lia, Rachel, children and animals; one last accusation along the way is resolved without confrontation. In Canaan the family finds stability, while crossing a pain that marks it. The memory and strength of those who remain keep the house of Jacob united.
