Surprisingly on Italy 1 and Mediaset Infinity comes a thriller-action series, The Assassin with Keeley Hawes and Freddie Highmore, consisting of 6 episodes divided into two evenings Tuesday 9 and Wednesday 10 June. Produced by Two Brothers Pictures and All3Media, the series was distributed by Prime Video in the UK, ZDF in Germany, Stan in Australia, Universal+ in Brazil. Filming took place mainly in Greece. Initially it had to be a miniseries but last November was renewed for a second season.

Julie, a former professional killer, retired on a Greek island to leave his past behind. When his son Edward comes to his door looking for answers on his father and their difficult relationship, the situation takes an unexpected turn. One last assignment forces mother and son to join forces, facing dangers, hidden truths and enemies ready for everything.

On an idyllic and wonderfully remote Greek island, a former paid killer Julie lives a lonely life. He’s been away for 10 years to escape his dark past, his humble existence is interrupted when his son Edward arrives armed with questions about new information about his fatherhood. Edward struggles to find the right time to talk to his mother but she tries to avoid the conversation at all costs. When Edward finally presents the moment for a confrontation with her, things take a mortal turn: Julie’s dangerous past reaches her and are forced to flee the island together, testing their dysfunctional relationship.
After fleeing the island aboard a huge yacht along with the local village Luka, Julie and Edward find themselves involved in a new and unusual kind of family reunion. Forced to keep a cover and keep Julie’s past hidden, they have to deal with Kayla and her brother Ezra, both senior executives of the father’s mining company. Suspectful of this “family”, just as Julie’s past returns afloat, Kayla and Ezra become the target of Julie’s increasingly daring maneuvers, which raises the stake in the most unexpected ways. Things are even more complicated when they come up on a surprise board Sean, an old friend and fellow assassin, whose presence is likely to reveal Julie’s true identity to the group.
Arrived in Albania, the group is heading for the old contact of Julie: Damian. Julie is distracted because she suspects Edward is hiding something from her. After breaking into Damian’s apartment in an attempt to find a clue, they understand that to find out why Julie was hunted, they will have to track him down. At the Cross House, in southern France, Marie finds an unlikely ally: Ezra Cross. Meanwhile, his father, Aaron Cross, devotes all his energies to the search for the Dutch computer expert who has now fled, Jasper, and does everything to protect the secret of his family. In Albania, Edward reveals a secret to Kayla. Julie finally finds Damian but he tries to trick her.

Julie disarms and shoots Damien, but saves his life in exchange for a truck and access to a refuge in Athens. In France, Ezra tells Kayla about Jasper’s call and how Aaron has seen an old letter from a safe. Kayla addresses his father about the letter and meaning of “Chantaines”, but he claims to ignore him. Marie pays Aaron’s bodyguard to kill him, but Ezra saves him. In return, Aaron promises to succeed CGM if he helps keep the name of “Chantaines” secret for the company.
Edward’s plan to meet a valuable ally takes a dark turn, and Julie can’t protect him. Marie’s providential arrival offers Edward the information about her past that she so much desired… but at what price? In France, Kayla discovers the family secret that her father desperately tried to keep hidden, and must decide whether to reveal a truth’ destined to leave a lasting mark on the inheritance of their family. Luka and Julie find themselves looking for answers and tracking Edward. The pieces of the puzzle finally begin to match for Julie – do you know who is responsible for the chain of catastrophic events?
A return of the final accounts awaits Julie and Luka, who must cross the continent to face the repercussions of Julie’s past actions. Marie reveals to Edward the shocked truth that makes him doubt everything he believed he knew about his life. In France, the consequences of the secret of the Cross family have a strong impact on the choices of Kayla and Ezra. It is a matter of life and death for Julie, Edward, Marie and Luka, because the dramatic conclusion could be much more tragic than expected.
