Italian Global Series, the second edition of meetings and presentations

From 3 to 11 July in Rimini and Riccione there will be the Italian Global Series, the second edition of the festival of the TV series between competitions, awards and meetings with actors, actresses and personalities of the world of TV series. The event takes place between Rimini (Cinema Fulgor, Teatro Galli, Teatro degli Atti and Corte degli Agostiniani, from 3 to 6 July) and Riccione (PalaRiccione, Arena Piazzale Ceccarini, from 7 to 10 July) and is a free event. The closing evening, in which the winners of the competitions will be unveiled, will be held in Rimini Saturday 11 July, directed by the television director Duccio Forzano (Eurovision, What time it does) and conducted by the comedian Sergio Friscia, with Matilde Gioli, godmother of the Festival.

During the festival there will be the International Competition, the Conversations with the protagonists of global seriality and the Italian previews of the next season. The International Competition of the Italian Global Series 2026 received 161 series from 34 different countries. The official selection includes 21 series from 15 countries. The Competition, divided into the three sections Drama, Comedy and Limited Series, will award the prestigious Maximo Awards, among the most authoritative awards of Italian audiovisual.

Italian Global Series, la programmazione

There will be three absolute previews all plated Rai: The cases of Teresa Battaglia – The daughter of the ashes of Kiko Rosati, with Elena Sofia Ricci, in the Drama section, One of Us by Andrea Rebuzzi, with Raoul Bova in the Limited Series section, and A small formality by Davide Marengo, with Pilar Fogliati in the Comedy section, which side with a selection of international titles, many of which in World Premiere or International Premiere, but often there is no Italian.

I titoli Drama

The Drama section opens with two World Premiere very expected: – Benidorm Is Murder, UK/Spain co-production directed by Simon Delaney with John Hannah, a crime bath set on the Costa Blanca; from Brazil comes the adrenaline medical series Emergency 53. The Korean thriller Speaking Dead is an international premiere. Drama: the English Secret Service, political spy thriller directed by Oscar James Marsh with Gemma Arterton; the Swedish legal Burden of Justice and the long-awaited return of the anthological series The Terror with Devil in Silver, produced by Scott Free, the first US title in competition at the Festival that will be accompanied in Riccione by the two protagonists Judith Light and CCH Pounder.

Limited Series

The Limited Series section brings together intimate stories and great contemporary frescoes and is opened by Le Rouge et le Noir, the new adaptation of Stendhal’s red and black interpreted by Victor Belmondo and Camille Razat (Emily in Paris) and Virginie Ledoyen, two actresses expected to Rimini along with the director Gaël Morel (who forty years ago – as an actor – had excited the audience of the whole world). From the UK debuts Falling, the first romance of the author of Adolescence and the adaptation of the Lord of the Mosques, Jack Thorne, directed by Peter Hoar. Among the International Premieres are The Widow Killer, noir set in Prague in 1945, and Raza Brava, a rebellion in the world of the ultras of Santiago, which began in the 1970s during the Pinochet dictatorship. In addition, the French series Laura’s Treatment, interpreted by Valérie Bonneton, will be among the international guests of the section, and the family drama rich in scene shots The Tribute.

Comedy

In the Comedy selection we find from Belgium Boho, a generational portrait set in the multicultural district of Borgerhout; from Germany the award-winning The Flaws, a comedy created by a theatrical collective and produced by Razor Film; from Canada Happily Ever After, which questioned the myth of “forever” to 25 years. Leonard and Hungry Paul arrives from Ireland, with Alex Lawther and the narrating voice of Julia Roberts, while from the UK Riot Women brings Sally Wainwright’s signature at the Festival along with actress Tamsin Greig. Closes the selection Cell Block B, asdy prison of Czech origin.

The Maximo Prizes of the International Competition will be attributed by the three guided juries: the director and screenwriter candidate for Oscar and three Emmy Nicholas Meyer; the producer Marti Noxon (Buffy l’ammazzavampiri, Prison Break, Grey’s Anatomy, Mad Men); the actor and playwright Bruno Goeury (Emily in Paris, The White Lotus). They will be assisted by the jurors Victor Alli, Pier Giorgio Bellocchio, Assaad Bouab, Rudy Buttignol, Barbara Chichiarelli, Katia Fellin, Francesca Inaudi, Kaze, Maurizio Lombardi, Lisa Mulcahy, Pivio, Tom Wlaschiha and the star of Mentalist and Scarpetta Amanda Righetti.

Conversazioni e incontri

The two Turkish superstars Özge Gürel and Serkan Çayoğlu, on July 5 in Rimini. They will talk about their work on set and being a couple also in life in a very social event where, always in pairs, they have about 10 million followers.

Among the other meetings are those with Carlton Cuse, iconic showrunners such as Lost, Jack Ryan and Five Days at Memorial, who will present Lost in Fellini, a journey into his creative imagination in dialogue with John Ridley, Academy Award for 12 years slave and author of American Crime. A comparison between two masters of modern narrative, able to redefine the language of global seriality.

The dialogue between David W. Zucker, Chief Creative Officer of Scott Free – the company founded by Ridley and Tony Scott – and Steve Stark, serial producer like The Handmaid’s Tale, Wednesday and Fargo: a meeting that explores the future of international production and the role of the great creative houses in the new audiovisual ecosystem.

Eventi e celebrazioni

The Italian Global Series will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of Jesus of Nazareth with Robert Powell, an unforgettable protagonist of the work of Franco Zeffirelli, who returns to Italy to retrace the history of one of the most beloved productions of world television, together with the journalist of Avvenire, Tiziana Lupi, and the director of the Torino Film Festival Giulio Base.

The Maximo Excellence Award will be awarded to Rita Pavone. Robert Powell and Carlton Cuse will be awarded the Maximo Excellence Award, together with Sabrina Ferilli, Marco Giallini, Lino Banfi, Rita Pavone to the writer Francesco Piccolo and producer Roberto Sessa, awarded for an artistic journey that marked the collective imagination.

Among the guests, John Hannah, face of Four Weddings and a funeral and The Mummy; Bertie Carvel, who has been successful in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and among the protagonists of the next Harry Potter series; and Kate Rhodes James, one of the most influential casting directors in the UK. There will be host Natasha Lyonne protagonist of a conversation. There will be Titus Welliver who will also present The Westies and Richard Gadd.

Among the special events, Netflix presents a very beloved story: the Special Screening of the new version of La casa in the prateria. From Laura Ingalls Wilder’s semi-autobiographical books, the series will be projected into an exclusive preview for the public, the press and the fans. “Cagnàz: Rimini in Crime” will be a special conversation with director Alessandro Roia to tell the work of the new series Rai – conceived by Carlo Lucarelli and Giampiero Rigosi – set in the same territory where the Festival will take place.

60 anni di Star Trek e 30 di Un posto al Sole

In an era of war and peace two events will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the science fiction series Star Trek first aired in the autumn of 1966, during the Vietnam conflict of which, in some way, was a mirror and a metaphor. On July 8 in Riccione there will be the special screening preview of an episode of the new season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The fourth season of the series will debut on 23 July at Paramount+.

To celebrate the thirty years of A place in the sun, the longest Italian soap opera, a really special event: the cast will comment on the broadcast of a episode together with the actress, director and stand-up comedian Michela Giraud, great fan of the series.

Italian Showcase

The Italian Showcase is also back, the section that presents the best of Italian fictions of the next season exclusively. The titles Rai Fiction The Panini family – The adventure of the figurines, A window overlooking the lake, Libera – Season 2, L’ombra e Vincenzo Malinconico, lawyer of failure – Season 3. Mediaset will bring to the Festival a taste of three series currently working: Viola as the Sea – Season 3, international co-production The butterflies maze and Erica a detective by chance. From Prime Video an exclusive look at Super Market, the new comedy that tells the tragic events of Eury, a chaotic neighborhood supermarket that risks closing.
