After the enthusiastic welcome at the last Venice Festival, where he conquered public and critical with a long standing ovation and after the landing in the hall, My brother is a Viking – The Last Viking is available in home video with Plaion Pictures.
Written and directed by Danish filmmaker Anders Thomas Jensen (The Apples of Adam), the film stars Mads Mikkelsen (Another round, the Hannibal series) next to Nikolaj Lie Kaas (Frankenstein of Guillermo del Toro), interpreters of a very surprising dark comedy.
Ironic, striking, deep and moving, the film is a journey between identity, memory and blood ties.
Anker comes out of prison after fifteen years for a robbery whose loot was buried by his brother Manfred. The problem? Manfred suffers from a personality disorder and is convinced he is nothing less than John Lennon. The two brothers thus embark on an unpredictable journey in search of money – and inevitably of themselves – in a tale alternating humor, brilliant scenes, melancholy and sudden moments of tenderness.
“I wanted to tell a story about identity and what we are more than one definition,” said Anders Thomas Jensen, “We are the result of how others see us, but also who we would like to be. If we accept to contain many versions of ourselves, perhaps we become more indulgent, more free. And even more able to love.”.
In Denmark the film set a record recording in a few weeks over 700,000 spectators, resulting in Jensen’s most watched film ever. In balance between a smart comedy and a powerful emotional charge, My brother is a Viking – The Last Viking treats fragile characters with an ironic and deeply human look, with all the grace for which Jensen’s pen is now known (Premio Oscar for the short Election Night).
To give life to the irresistible characters outlined by Jensen is a cast of great actors. The two protagonists return to collaborate with Jensen after appearing in all the previous feature films of the director, demonstrating an explosive chemistry at all times shared by the two protagonist brothers, who among vicissitudes from the exhilarating and vertiginous rhythm, will try to rebuild a lost bond for a long time.
In the cast also Sofie Gråbøl, Bodil Jørgensen and Lars Brygmann.
Mio fratello è un vichingo – The Last Viking: l’edizione home video
The Blu-ray + DVD edition is a cute colored plastic amaray with double disk. Good audio/video performance and exciting extra content, such as the grotesque comedy itself: two double interviews to: Mads Mikkelsen and Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Sofie Gråbøl and Anders Thomas Jensen and the film trailer. The free poster would have been the cherry on the cake, sin.
