Over fifty years from A Man, a Woman, Claude Lelouch returns to tell one of the most famous love stories of French cinema with the best years of our life (Les plus belles années d’une vie), aired on Friday, July 10 in the first evening on Rai 3. Released in 2019, the film shows Jean-Louis Trintignant and Anouk Aimée, protagonists of the masterpiece that in 1966 conquered the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival and two Oscar awards. More than just a sequel, it is a story about time, memories and ties that persist even when memory begins to fade.
La trama
Jean-Louis Duroc lives in a nursing home and his memory is now compromised by age. The memories of the past resurface in a fragmentary way, bringing it back to the moments lived with Anne Gauthier, the woman known many years before and with whom she had shared an intense but unfinished love story.
He will be Jean-Louis’s son to track Anne and convince her to review her old love. The meeting brings both back to confront what was and what could have been, on a journey between present and past that interweaves new scenes with images taken from the previous films of the saga.
Il cast
To play again the protagonists are Jean-Louis Trintignant, in the role of Jean-Louis Duroc, and Anouk Aimée, who returns as Anne Gauthier. In addition to them they play Monica Bellucci, Souad Amidou, Antoine Sire, Tess Lauvergne and Marianne Denicourt, who complete the cast of the film directed by Claude Lelouch.
Il terzo capitolo di una storia iniziata nel 1966
The best years of our life is the third chapter in the history of Jean-Louis and Anne, which began with a man, a woman in 1966 and continued in 1986 with a man, a woman today. Claude Lelouch chooses to bring back on the screen the same interpreters to tell the passing of time through their faces and emotions, transforming the film into a reflection on memory, love and the opportunities that life offers even when it seems too late.
