Everything went well: plot, cast and where to see the movie of François Ozon

The summer festival of Rai 3 dedicated to the cinema of author with It went well (Tout s’est bien passé), aired on Tuesday 14 July in the first evening at 21.20. Directed by François Ozon and presented in competition at the Cannes Film Festival 2021, the film is taken from Emmanuèle Bernheim’s autobiographical book published in 2013 by Emmanuèle Bernheim, screenwriter and writer who died in 2017, who recounted his personal experience after his father’s request. François Ozon, a friend of the writer and collaborator of Bernheim in several films, transforms the book into an intimate story that addresses the theme of euthanasia with a profoundly human look, focusing mainly on family relationships and the weight of decisions that the protagonists are called to make.

Interpreted by Sophie Marceau, André Dussollier and Charlotte Rampling, the film tells a familiar story that forces all the protagonists to confront a difficult choice, avoiding easy moralism and leaving room for emotions and doubts.

Emmanuèle, a successful writer and screenwriter, sees his life changing when his father André, now eighty-five, is struck by a severe stroke that leaves him partially paralyzed and dependent on others.

Aware of not wanting to live in those conditions, André asks his daughter to help him end his life by using assisted suicide. For Emmanuèle thus begins a complex path, made of bureaucratic obstacles, moral reflections and family tensions, while trying to respect the will of the father without betraying his feelings.

Sophie Marceau plays Emmanuèle Bernheim, the protagonist of André’s story and daughter. André Dussollier dresses up his father André Bernheim, a brilliant and anti-conformist man who, after the stroke, decides to ask for help to put an end to his suffering.

Alongside them, they play Géraldine Pailhas as her sister Pascale, Charlotte Rampling, who plays Claude de Soria, a long-time friend of the family, Éric Caravaca, Hanna Schygulla and Grégory Gadebois.

Everything went well aired on Tuesday, July 14th at 21:20 on Rai 3 and will be available free of charge streaming on RaiPlay after the television broadcast. At the moment it is not on a platform and is not available or chartered.
