This is clearly a two-speed summer.
Odissea arrives at its fourth weekend and reaches the peak of the revenues for 2026 with 44 million euros (surpassing Buen Camino, which however has consistent performances also in 2025) and venting 1.1 billion dollars globally.
Also Spider-Man: Brand New Day at its second weekend reaches 26 million and insidizes the historical performance of Avengers: Endgame. On the global stage the box of the film is even more impressive: 1.7 billion dollars, and the second fastest story movie to blow the billion.
These numbers feed the positive growth of 2026 over the previous year, but do they explain it completely? Do you need a couple of well-established blockbusters a year to keep the industry afloat, moving it substantially on a high-risk model, high reward, or are we seeing growth at all levels?
Box Office Italia 6-9 agosto
Without expecting the rarely repeatable perfomance of last weekend, the positive trend of this period remains solid with a weekend of 10,693.616 €: the eighth best of the year, which can boast a growth of 308% compared to the previous year.
Towing the car is always Spider-Man: Brand New Day with €5.531.247 and a total collection of €26.997.032: definitely a change of order of magnitude compared to previous Spider-Man films with Tom Holland, much more similar to a Marvel mainline event.
In second place Odissea slows but less than expected (only -32%) with a weekend from 3,970,449 €, bringing total revenues to 44,218,093 € and dethroning as expected Buen Camino from the top of the Italian box office of 2026.
After these giants, the order of magnitude of the ranking changes, but not for this reason it loses interest: in the third place we find a new entry, the independent horror Hokum that with an opening of 322.833 € (409.826 € on the five days) can definitely be satisfied.
They followed Minions & Monsters and Toy Story 5 with rather predictable performances (194.195 € and 70.873 € respectively), as well as in light growth but globally similar to last week the contribution of arenas with Le città di plain (34 thousand), The Devil dresses Prada 2 (31 thousand) and Michael (37 thousand). Wild card the film event on the band K-pop Ateez Ateez: Light the Way in Cinemas, which brings home 40,951 €.

Of course, the super success of Spider-Man continues in American theatres: Brand New Day, which with a 144 million weekend reaches the enviable 654 million in the USA and touching a 1.7 billion phantasm globally.
Odyssey remains a solid second with 31 million, while positions number 3 and 5 this week belong to debuts: the first one at Will Gluck’s One Night Only lightweight Romacom, the second at Jay Chandrasekhar’s irreverent Super Troopers 3.
In physiological decline the performances of Toy Story 5, Minions & Monsters and Oceania, respectively down in fourth, sixth and seventh position; even at the bottom of the ranking there are surprises with two debuts: the horror Ice Cream Man by Eli Roth and the bizarre CatVideoFest 2026.
