Tonight on TV 13 August 2026 on Cine 34 (channel 34 of the Digital Terrestre and Tivùsat and channel 327 of Sky) at 21:00 will air Overwhelmed by an unusual fate in the blue sea of August. Lina Wertmuller directs the couple Giancarlo Giannini – Mariangela Melato in a film symbol of the social split of the 1970s.
Raffaella Pavone Lanzetti, wealthy Milanese arrogant and anti-communist, continually humiliates Gennarino Carunchio, Sicilian sailor with a proud and politically opposite character. A failure to the inflatable leaves them alone at sea and then on a deserted island, where social roles turn: Gennarino becomes the only one able to guarantee survival, and between clashes, tensions and attraction a passionate and complex relationship arises.
That’s not all. Tomorrow 14 August TwentySeven (ch. 27 dtt and Tivùsat 158 Sky) at 21:15 will air the remake registered Guy Ritchie Travolti dal destino.
Curiosità sul film
La colonna sonora è a cura di Piero Piccioni. La canzone che si sente durante la telefonata tra Raffaella e Gennarino è Signora mia di Sandro Giacobbe, hit dell’estate 1974. L’anno dopo vince il David di Donatello per il miglior musicista.
La pellicola fu uno dei più grandi incassi in Italia al botteghino della stagione cinematografica 1974-75, quinto maggiore incasso della stagione.
Varie citazioni inserite da Lina Wertmuller all’interno del film: Melato recita il poeta Sandro Penna: «Mare traditore, che mi fosti amico un tempo e poi mi camminasti sopra il cuore». Giannini l’Epodo di Strasburgo, dalla lirica greca arcaica, attribuita ad Archiloco o ad Ipponatte: «Oh non ti dare arie di superiorità…».
Del film è stato realizzato un remake dal titolo Travolti dal destino (Swept Away), del 2002, diretto dal regista Guy Ritchie con protagonisti il figlio di Giancarlo, Adriano Giannini, e Madonna, ma non fu né un successo commerciale né di critica.
La pellicola è citata anche in un episodio della quinta stagione della serie In viaggio nel tempo, “Amore in alto mare”, in cui ne viene ripresa la sinossi.
