Saturday 13 December 2025 on La5 the film The Impossible will air. This is a dramatic film directed by Juan Antonio Bayona with Naomi Watts, Ewan McGregor and Tom Holland as the protagonists. The film is a Spanish production shot in English, and is written by Sergio G. Sanchez and is inspired by the true story of a family hit by a tsunami in 2004.
The Impossible, came out in the cinemas in 2012, cashing about 198 million euros. In Italy the film has cashed well 3.6 million euros in the first three weeks of programming. Here’s the trailer:
The Impossible, la trama
The film tells the story of Henry and Mary, a married couple with three children, Luca, Thoma and Simon. The family in 2004 will decide to spend Christmas holidays in a resort in Thailand, without knowing the terrible experience they would experience.
In fact, on the morning of December 26, a tsunami will overwhelm the entire village where the resort was located and from that moment their life will change forever. Mary emerges wounded in her chest and leg, and she manages to find only her eldest son: Lucas, clinging to a tree with another child named Daniel.
The three will be rescued and transported to the hospital, while Mary does not know that her husband and the other two children have been saved in a hotel room which was spared by the overwhelming fury of the tsunami. Henry does not win and will begin the research of his wife and Luke, embarking on a journey towards survival with the hope that one day the family will return together.
