Disney+ announced that in April 2026 it will also bring in Italy the first season of The Testaments, sequel TV series of The Handmaid’s Tale from the novels of Margaret Atwood. The Handmaid’s Tale was born to Hulu when MGM Studios had not yet been acquired by Amazon and were an independent studio and Hulu was not entirely Disney+. Not by chance in Italy the series has been distributed on Timvision and only in second view is coming on Prime Video (but the sixth season is still not present).
The title of The Testaments on Disney+ in Italy is the confirmation of a new unitary strategy for Hulu products even if not realized by internal studies (such as 20th Television). Who knows if at this point Disney+ will be able to insert in the catalog the complete series of The Handmaid’s Tale to allow its audience to see it before its sequel.
The Testaments, la trama
The Testaments is taken from the homonymous novel by Margaret Atwood, winner of the Booker Prize, published in 2019 and set in Gilead’s theocracy dystopian. Years after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale, The Testaments is a training story that sees a new generation of young women in Gilead struggling with the future cup that awaits them. For them, growing up in Gilead is the only thing they have ever known, not having tangible memories of the outside world before their indoctrination to this life. Faced with the possibility of being married and living a life of servitude, they will be forced to seek allies, both new and old, that help them in their struggle for freedom and life they deserve.

The series stars Ann Dowd, Chase Infiniti, Lucy Halliday, Mabel Li, Amy Seimetz, Brad Alexander, Rowan Blanchard, Mattea Conforti, Zarrin Darnell-Martin, Eva Foote, Isolde Ardies, Shechinah Mpumlwana, Birva Pandya and Kira Guloien.
The Testaments was created by showrunner and executive producer Bruce Miller and sees as executive producer Warren Littlefield, Elisabeth Moss, Steve Stark, Shana Stein, Maya Goldsmith, John Weber, Sheila Hockin, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears and Mike Barker, who will also lead the first three episodes. The series is produced by MGM Television.
