The Wet and Oceanic atmospheres of Wales embrace Under Salt Marsh who in Italian has the secret subtitle Submerged to make it clear that we are from the sides of a peat miniseries thriller. Literally it would be “under the brackish swamp” much less impact than the English version. Under Salt Marsh is a Sky Original TV series coming to Italy from Monday 2 February practically at the same time since in the UK it will be released from Friday 30 January.
The protagonists are Kelly Reilly and Rafe Spall and the Welsh purists have been resentful that they have been chosen English actors in the main roles, but so much we with dubbing the difference we do not notice and in the original language we would hardly be able to see inflections not quite consonable. Strangely it is not a literary adaptation but it is created, written and directed by Claire Oakley. As many contemporary productions have six bets.
Under Salt Marsh, la trama
The series brings the public to the heart of a community united by nature but crushed by an unthinkable crime. Set among breathtaking landscapes, in the lost imaginary town of Morfa Halen, in Wales, the new exciting crime drama combines a local narrative with a more universal portrait: that of a microcosm rich in humanity and tensions, perched precariously between imposing mountains and a sea that advances rapidly, threatening the existence of the same town.
The series in six episodes opens with the arrival of an unprecedented storm. Jackie Ellis (Reilly), a former detective who became a teacher, makes a shocking discovery that reopens the wounds of an unresolved three-year-old case, which cost her both her career and her family’s trust. Forced to gather with his former police partner, Eric Bull (Spall), from whom he had now gone, Jackie is dragged back into an investigation to shake Morfa Halen from the foundation. Together, they will face a community persecuted by secrets and broken by pain, before the incoming storm cancels the evidence forever.

In addition to the two protagonists in the cast we find Naomi Yang (Chimerica), Jonathan Pryce (The Crown), Dinita Gohil (Treason), Brian Gleeson (Bad Sisters), Kimberley Nixon (Queenie) and Harry Lawtey (Industry). The cast also includes Mark Stanley (Happy Valley, The Reckoning), Dino Fetscher (Fool Me Once, Foundation), Lizzie Annis (The Witcher: Blood Origin, Extraordinary), Rhodri Meilir (Pren ar y Bryn, Craith) and Julian Lewis Jones (House of the Dragon, The Wheel of Time).
Under Salt Marsh is produced by Little Door Productions in collaboration with Sky Studios. Production received support from the Welsh Government through Creative Wales. The series is written by Claire Oakley, Jonathan Harbottle (episodes 3 and 5) and Nikita Lalwani (episode 4). The main director is entrusted to Claire Oakley, with Mary Nighy to lead episodes 3 and 4. Producers are Scott Bassett and Emma Duffy. Executive producers are Elwen Rowlands for Little Door Productions, Megan Spanjian for Sky Studios, Claire Oakley and Kelly Reilly.
