The Muppet Show, Disney tries again with Seth Rogen and Sabrina Carpenter

Every now and then Disney tries to relaunch the brand of Muppet one of the assets at its disposal that has always remained anchored to the past, every attempt to bring it back to the present with a new show turned out to fail, rejected by the public. Will this new The Muppet Show succeed?

The occasion was cast on the 50th anniversary of Jim Henson’s first release in 1976. The mode is also the right one: a special one to see how it should be broadcast on ABC in the USA and released on Disney+ in the world. Seth Rogen among the producers with the trusted Evan Goldberg promises to give new life to the world Muppet that has always had a rare comedy and cynicism for a program “for children”.

The Muppet Show 2026

It’s time for The Muppet Show. Kermit, Miss Piggy and the beloved Muppets return for a new event. Among music, laughter and so much chaos, the Muppet will once again climb the stage of the historic Muppet Theatre with their special guest, Sabrina Carpenter. Among the guest stars besides Seth Rogen there will also be Maya Rudolph.

The single “The Muppet Show Theme (2026) is available today, Wednesday 4 February, and is played by Muppet and produced by Bill Sherman, winner of GRAMMY® and Emmy® Award. Muppet veterans, Bill Barretta, Dave Goelz, Eric Jacobson, Peter Linz, David Rudman and Matt Vogel will return to give life to most iconic Muppet characters in this production and will be supported by a team of other talented performers.

Produced by 20th Television, Disney Branded Television, The Muppets Studio and Point Grey Pictures, the special event is directed by Alex Timbers, who is also the executive producer. Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver and Alex McAtee are executive producer for Point Grey Pictures; David Lightbody, Leigh Slaughter and Michael Steinbach are executive producer for The Muppets Studio; Sabrina Carpenter, Albertina Rizzo, Matt Vogel and Eric Jacobson are executive producer.

Created by Jim Henson, the original The Muppet Show series aired from 1976 to 1981 in more than 100 countries and hosted famous guest stars, including Elton John, Johnny Cash, Diana Ross, Debbie Harry, Gladys Knight, Liza Minelli, Paul Simon and many more. Over the years, the series has won Emmy®, GRAMMY®, Peabody, BAFTA awards and many other awards. In a 1978 article, Time magazine called it “the most popular television entertainment program currently produced on Earth”. This year, The Muppet Show celebrates its 50th anniversary. All five seasons of The Muppet Show are available on Disney+.
