News TV series: Joshua Jackson finds Greg Berlanti in the HBO Max pilot; double return to Chicago PD

The continuous flow of news from the world of TV series never stops, among new projects, novelties from the cast there is always something to discover and with which to be surprised. Without forgetting the incoming titles (here is our calendar always updated) and all the news from the renewals and cancellations (here). Brilliant Minds has been removed from the NBC paling and the remaining part of the season 2 will be released in late spring or summer, definitely a bad sign for the series that in the second season has fallen from the point of view of the listens.

Joshua Jackson finds Greg Berlanti in the pilot How to Survive Without Me, the family drama designed with the same production mode as The Pitt to broaden the spectrum of series projects reminiscent of the old generalist TV but with the quality of streaming. The formula chosen is to find titles with authors and protagonists coming from the TV of the 90s/’00s: So Noah Wyle, Milo Ventimiglia for the police, Joshua Jackson with Greg Berlanti for the family.

Written by Berlanti with Bash Doran and Robbie Rogers, produced by Warner Bros Tv, How To Survive Without Me tells the story of the De Angelis family who has just lost the Beverly matriarch and must understand how to go ahead without his guide, trying to remain united and to support one another. Joshua Jackson will be Cooper, a chef who is about to open a restaurant in Los Angeles bringing mother’s recipes and her approach to food, suffers silently and has a secret that could destroy her career and mother’s honor. Ray Romano will be the patriarch, Leo, who finds himself a widow and has to try to manage the family.

Sylvester Stallone e Cole Hauser per un progetto MGM

Sylvester Stallone’s Balboa Productions with Cole Hauser and MGM’s American Outlaw Entertainment are working on Blood Aces adaptation: The Wild Ride of Benny Binion, the Texas Gangster Who Created Vegas Poker book by Doug J. Swanson who tells the life of the man who founded the modern Las Vegas. Hauser will play Binion.

Serie tv Eragon

Todd Harthan (High Potential) was chosen to write the adaptation of Christopher Paolini’s Eragon novels for Disney+ with Harthan and Todd Helbin who will be showrunner and Marc Webb as executive producer. The project has been working since 2022. In the saga a teenager is chosen as the first dragon rider in 100 years and must find a way to establish a bond with the dragon, handle the ancient magic and challenge a mad king who wants to kill all the knights.

Chicago PD

Tracy Spiridakos and Jesse Lee Soffer will return to the expected Chicago Fire – PD – Med triple crossover expected in the USA on March 4. Compared to the usual the order of the series will be different with Fire that will open the crossover followed by Med and PD in closing. Spiridakos will resume the role of Upton and return to his old colleagues in the FBI Special Agent for a drug trafficking case. Soffer’s character instead became an undercover agent infiltrating a Bolivian cartel.

The Interrogator

Fox continues in his construction of a palimpsest made of genre titles, with famous protagonists and a clear style, something more similar to basic cable productions than from light TV that seems to be paying (the 2026 started with excellent results for Best Medicine and Memory of a Killer). For the season 2026/27 he has already ordered The Interrogator written and produced by Stephen Fry co-produced with Lionsgate.

The project was ordered directly in series, without passing through the pilot. Fry wrote the pilot that was revised by Matt Pyken (Empire) and Bill Harper (Fire Country). Alfie Allen joined the cast of the second season of The Institute of MGM+ inspired by Stephen King’s novel. Allen will be Nolan Reeves one of the funders of the institute, a wealthy European eccentric.

John. Cho joined Apple TV’s The Off Weeks cast with Ben Stiller and Jessica Chastain. In the middle of the story of Gus Adler, a professor whose life becomes chaos after divorce, especially in the “off” weeks in which he has no children. The meeting with Stella West puts this organization in crisis.

Ildy Modrovich (Lucifer) is working as a showrunner and author at the adaptation of Freida McFadden’s Dead Debbie novel for Amazon MGM Studios. In the center a wife, mother and journalist who decides to avenge after a series of injustices.

Clea DuVall and Jorge Lendeborg Jr. enter the cast of The Last of Us. DuVall will be a seraphite while Lendeborg Jr. will be Manny replacing Danny Ramirez who for a overlap with another project will not return.

David Zayas will replace Timothy Busfield in an episode of Law & Order: SVU that should be aired on January 15 in the USA but that was suppressed because the actor, who played the judge, was arrested for child abuse. Zayas will take his place and the scenes where the actor was present will be filmed.

Jona Xiao will be guest star of the second season of The Pitt currently in progress on HBO Max. It will be Nurse Sam Garvin.
