The countdown is officially started. On 20 May 2026, Italian theatres will welcome what is not only a film, but a real generational event: The Mandalorian and Grogu. After years of streaming success, the most beloved pair of the galaxy makes the big leap towards the cinema, bringing with it the weight of a franchise that aims to find its most epic and spectacular dimension.
The goal is to show that Star Wars can still dominate the world box office with stories that know how to talk to both old-time fans (thanks to aesthetic calls to the original trilogy) and to the new generations grown with streaming. With a mix of frantic action, deep family ties and a splash of galactic politics, the film is running to be the definitive blockbuster of 2026.
Directed by Jon Favreau, the film is not an isolated chapter, but the pulsating heart of an interconnected narrative that fans learned about Disney+. The film is part of a crucial timeline of Star Wars: located between the fall of the Empire and the rise of the First Order, the story sees Din Djarin act officially as a “contractor” for the fragile New Republic.
The Empire has fallen and the imperial warlords are still scattered around the galaxy. While the nascent New Republic seeks to protect everything for which the Rebel Alliance fought, he enlisted the help of the legendary mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu.
The most interesting aspect for fans is how the film will dialogue with TV series. This is not a simple substitute for the fourth season, but a catalyst event: the consequences of Mando’s film mission and his little apprentice Grogu will have direct repercussions on Ahsoka’s future seasons and new development projects.

Il Cast: Volti Nuovi e Icone Galattiche
For this transition to the cinema, Lucasfilm set up a team of top-level actors, mixing saga veterans and star of the moment:
