Who scores wins is the movie on this evening, Monday 9 March 2026 in the premiere on Rai 2 and streaming on RaiPlay. Director of the film is Taika Waititi, actor, director, New Zealand screenwriter, Oscar for the screenplay by Jojo Rabbit, director and screenwriter of Thor: Love and Thunder, always able to give its ironic character to the movies she works for. This film is inspired by the documentary Next Goal Wins (which is also the original title) and is set in the world of football but from a definitely different point of view than usual, telling the true story of the American Samoa team considered the worst national in the world.
Filming took place in November 2019 in Honolulu, in January 2020 the film was ready but in December 2021 additional footage was needed. In fact, alongside Michael Fassbender, who plays the protagonist Thomas Rongen as Alex Magnussen, there was initially Armie Hammer. In the meantime, however, the actor was accused of alleged harassment and production decided to replace it with Will Arnett with additional footage. The film was released in 2023 in the USA and in January 2024 in Italy.

Thomas Rongen, Ct of the U.S. National Youth Team, was relieved of the charge for behavioral problems and alcoholism. The federation sends him to Samoa, to take care of the local team, who lost 31 to 0 with Australia and is valued as the worst national in the world. For the 2014 World Championship qualifying, he was given the task of at least one goal: on the sports floor he found a group to say the least.
