Oscar 2026: all according to forecast. The evening was judged pleasant by many American critics, thanks to the guidance of Conan O’Brien (who should no longer serve this role) and his jokes on current affairs and colleagues. Reunion between the presenters and their sketches helped lighten the climate.
Everything as expected on the eve, including the absence of Sean Penn who did not withdraw the Oscar as the best non-starter for One battle after another. The film by Paul Thomas Anderson, best director, won as best film, non-original screenplay, Anderson became the ninth to win better movies, directors and an Oscar for the screenplay. In total the film took home 6 statuettes, 4 for Sinners and to rejoice is Warner Bros who had 11. The second place for Netflix with 7 awards including the best animation film for KPop Demon Hunters and 3 technical awards for Frankenstein.
No surprise on the actors front with Jessie Buckley first Irish to conquer an Oscar for Hamnet, Michael B. Jordan for Sinners, the aforementioned Sean Penn and Amy Madigan for Weapons. The first Oscar for casting, introduced this year, went to One battle after the other. As predictable Marty Supreme was ignored. Among the surprises, the award to the documentary Mr. Nobody Against Putin was that on the eve they gave the others The Perfect Neighbor, Come See Me in the Good Light and The Alabama Solution as favorites. Another surprise, the tie between two short live action The Singers and Two People Exchanging Saliva, is the seventh time a tie takes place in Oscar history.
