On Sunday, April 5, 2026 IRIS will air the cult film “Heart of the sea – The origins of Moby Dick“, directed by Ron Howard, taken from the homonymous novel by Nathaniel Philbrick. Chris Hemsworth plays the lead. The date with the film is at 21:10 on IRIS. The film (In the Heart of the Sea in English) was released in 2015 and cashed $93.9 million worldwide, of which $25 million were cashed in the US market. In Italy the film has cashed 4,4 million euros.
Heart of the sea – Le origini di Moby Dick, la trama
The plot of Heart of the Sea takes us in the winter of 1820. The New England whaler is attacked by an incredible creature. It is a whale with its size and elephant strength, and an almost human sense of revenge. The maritime disaster, really, would have inspired Herman Melville to write Moby Dick. But the author described only part of the story.
The film reveals the consequences of that shocking aggression, how the survivors of the ship’s crew are pushed beyond their limits and forced to carry out the unthinkable in order to survive. Defiant weather, hunger, panic and despair, men question their most rooted beliefs. From the value of life to the morality of their expeditions, while the captain tries to resume the course in the open sea, and the first officer attempts to defeat the capital.
