Downton Abbey – The Grand Final is a film dedicated to the historical fans of the English TV series, born in 2010 as a miniseries, transformed into a real series, passed for three films and arrives 15 years after its grand finale. More than 20 years have passed since Downton Abbey’s saga began and the English Lords have to deal with the time they spend.
The third and final film takes us in 1930, the Crawleys and their servitude enjoy the London scene, observing the changes in the city, the buildings transformed into another, the houses of old friends become department stores. And while Lady Petersfield’s dance is taking place, the highlight of the season, newspapers discover Mary’s divorce before Downton’s heir even told his parents.
Also in Downton’s staff are coming several changes, Andy is preparing to become the new butler instead of Carson, Mrs. Patmore is about to leave Daisy the reins of the kitchen. Meanwhile Isobel replaced Violet as President of the County Fair and tries to bring his revolutionary changes to a world anchored to old traditions.

Harold’s arrival with the mysterious businessman Gus Sambrook, further shakes the world of Crawley with the inevitable economic problems of the nobles and with a society that still does not accept divorce. A theme that Julian Fellowes, author of the series, also addressed in The Gilded Age which is set 30 years earlier in New York.
Downton Abbey Il Gran Finale che tutti i fan volevano
The film Downton Abbey on Sky from May 24 in the hall is the Grand Final for all fans of the series. Julian Fellowes embarked on the ideal screenplay for those who 15 years ago began to see the series, for those who cried at the death of Matthew or Sybil, for those who loved the sarcasm of Lady Violet (also known at the end of the film).

And we also end up flying over the flaws of a somewhat tiring first part, in which to keep the rows of all the characters, of all the actors present, to resume all the stories trying to make everyone remember everything was not simple. A sequence of scenes often seasoned by a joke that seemed too fake and soulless to be true.
But from mid-film onwards, eliminate the ornaments and get to the heart of the various events, the film acquires vigour, touching the emotional strings of fans. Inevitably it is a fan film and not for the occasional viewers. Even more than in the past, the central theme is the passage of time, the change of customs and the transformation of a world in decay, in which even a Lord must deal with an apartment in which there are families upstairs and downstairs.
As it has always been in the world of Downton Abbey, each character has its own space, whether it is a noble or a domestic, all are united by the same narrative dignity. The plots of each flow in parallel to the general one, creating a perfect harmonic dance, between drama and sarcasm, lightness and depth. The screenplay and dialogues confirm, even in this film, the strength of the world Downton Abbey.
And now that a fourth film is not only useless but it would also be harmful, it is only to imagine a scenario in the future in which we return to see life in Downton perhaps in the second post-war period, with a George in love, an aged Mary and a world in which nobility had to adapt and transform.
