Django di Corbucci returns to the restored cinema for its 60 years

60 years after the release, one of the absolute masterpieces of Italian cinema has returned to the big screen since June 16. Django by Sergio Corbucci, presented in 4K restored version.

Interpreted by Franco Nero, the film has become a true international cult, able to influence generations of directors, artists and spectators. A powerful work, a political and visual parable that today resonates with renewed force. Django is distributed by CG Entertainment in collaboration with Lumière & Co. and Cinemaundici, thanks to Surf Film.

To celebrate one of the most iconic and revolutionary films in the history of genre cinema, posters and trailers are now available for the occasion and for the new version.

Django: successo ed eredità del film di Corbucci

His name is Django. His motives are obscure. His revenge, inevitable.

A man dressed in black who drags himself behind a coffin with the mysterious content, arrives in a country on the border with Mexico, where two armed factions collide: the one, under the command of Major Jackson (Eduardo Fajardo), a racist fanatic, and the other led by revolutionary Rodriguez (José Bódalo). Django (Black Throne), this is the name of the unknown, seems to have returned to the place in search of a ruthless revenge, but his motivations remain unknown to the woman who accompanies with him, Maria (Loredana Nusciak)..

In 1966, Django shocked the public, leading the western to extreme territories, between violence, mud and moral ambiguity. The protagonist, played by Franco Nero, is an anti-hero marked by revenge, away from classic models of the genre. The film depicts a brutal and political West, dominated by racism, fanaticism and abuse of power.

The memorable soundtrack of the award composer Oscar Luis Bacalov, with the famous theme written with Franco Migliacci and interpreted by Rocky Roberts, contributed decisively to his evocative force. Even today the figure of Django remains a symbol of rebellion and conflict between justice and revenge.

THE RESTAURO – The restoration of Django was realized by the Fondazione Cineteca di Bologna and by Surf Film starting from the 4K scan of the original negative room and the Italian negative sound. The restoration was carried out at L’Immagine Ritrovata in 2018. The film arrives in Italian cinemas in this version to celebrate its 60th anniversary, 1966-2026.

Since its release in 1966, the film has had a global impact, generating sequels, imitations and asserting itself as a true cultural phenomenon. The iconic image of Franco Nero with the coffin crossed international cinema, cartoon and pop culture. Regists such as Quentin Tarantino and Takashi Miike have honored their style and vision in famous works. The myth has also been relaunched in recent times between cinema and seriality, demonstrating its continuous vitality. Today Django remains a timeless symbol.
