Friday, June 5, 2026 Iris will air the film “42 – The true story of an American legend“. The film is directed by Brian Helgeland, and tells the story of the first African American player in a Baseball Major League team. The date with the film is at about 21:10 on IRIS.
The film went out to the cinema in 2013, and cashed around $97.4 million worldwide, with an estimated production cost of $40 million. In Italy the film was not released at the cinema, but was distributed directly to rental in digital platforms such as iTunes.

In 1946, at a time of full racism, Branch Rickey played a leading role in history when he decided to put himself on the front line by hired Jackie Robinson, an African American athlete. He proposed a contract as a professional player, an event that broke the race rules of the Baseball Major League.
At the centre of the attention of the public, the press and other players, Robinson was forced to demonstrate great courage and let his talent on the field conquer fans and teammates, convincing even the most critical, and opening the way for the other black athletes who followed him.
