North Country – Storia di Josey, la trama
It’s 1989 and Josey Aimes takes the decision of his life: he takes his two sons, Sammy and Karen, and leaves her violent husband Wayne. Josey then decided to take refuge in the city she was born in Minnesota. In a casual meeting with her old friend Glory Dodge who works as a driver and trade union representative in the mine managed by Pearson Taconite and Steel, she is proposed to work for them. A working environment dominated by men, both numerically and ideologically. But Josey is forced to accept to keep his children what he could not do by continuing to work as a shampist in a beauty salon.
Josey is immediately accused by his colleagues, including his father Hank, of stealing a man’s job. His father has always blamed Josey for his marriage. This thought arises from the fact that Josey does not know who his first son’s father is, and for this reason the husband was violent. A story about the role of women in a rural state where male ideology is still predominant and where the role of women and men must follow the usual stereotypes.
