History of my family 2, the review: how beautiful when a beautiful series is not lost in the street

Let’s start now with good news: My family history has returned with a second season of 6 episodes on Netflix and has maintained the same style and the same balance of the first. Filippo Gravino and Elisa Dondi succeeded in the difficult attempt to carry out the story of this family a little by blood, a little by adoption, without taking strange or incoherent directions, but continuing in the wake of the previous one.

It wasn’t easy. In fact, it was very difficult. Because the first season of History of my family had succeeded in the miracle of making a cool TV series, capable of making laugh and cry through the events of Fausto (Eduardo Scarpetta) that before dying he entrusted his children to his family, to his mother Lucia, to his brother Valerio and to his friends of always Mary and Demetrius. A painful story that has been able to give even so many sweet smiles. And in the second season this magic is not numb.

The arrival of grandfather Gaetano, interpreted by Sergio Castellitto, has created new dynamics among the characters, bringing a dose of lightness necessary between the rigidity of Valerio (Massimiliano Caiazzo) under the weight of duties and expectations, the merciless sincerity of Lucia (Vanessa Scalera), the distance of Mary (Cristiana Dall’Anna) and the insecurity of Demetrio (Antonio Gargiulo). Because Gaetano is an extremized Fausto, the same overwhelming positive force, but also more resourcefulness and unconsciousness. It was not by chance far from everyone’s life for years.

The lightness with which dialogues are brought, the naturalness of speaking among the characters continues to be the strength of the History of my family, in which tears and laughter are never forced, built, pushed out by the viewer, but accompanied in the fluidity of life. Everyone tries to find a way to overcome the terrible mourning that affected them, not only because Fausto was a loved one, but above all because he was a fundamental person in their lives, one of those that when there is no feeling. And you miss her. A pain that not even after years disappears, as much as you try to overcome it.

The second season of my family’s history is all about the sense of rebirth, of self-discovery and how one can live without this important figure, on how everyone can somehow the Fausto of himself or others. It was so easy to bring everything down, but the story of my family keeps and lets you breathe that familiar TV series air that you would like to find year after year, apprehensions to its protagonists and their stories.
