Netflix’s goal is not to get subscribers out of its platform. This is why videogames have been implemented for a long time and since June 30th Unhinged has been coming an immersive thriller that turns into a horror game to play with its smartphone, which turns into the controller capable of getting the player out of the nightmare.

Ava is trapped in her condo by a category 5 hurricane, and her only contact with the outside world is a phone call from her best friend Claire, who lives on the other side of the street. But the real terror lies inside. An oppressive restlessness transforms its refuge into a hostile prison full of disturbing threats: a door of the locked stairs eliminates every escape route, the apartment of a neighbor conceals a left silence, and in the end comes the shocking realization that is no longer alone. What begins as a terrifying power break during a violent storm turns into a psychological thriller with unpredictable twists.
Come si gioca?
Playing Unhinged is simple. Select the game from the Netflix Games tab and scan the QR code on the screen to connect your smartphone as a controller. From there, integration is immediate: moving the phone into the real world corresponds 1:1 with Ava’s hands in the game, allowing you to drive its torch through the shadows. The immersion also pushes with audio. When Ava receives a call or a message, your phone rings, vibrates and reproduces the audio directly from its speaker, while the ambient sound effects fill through the TV.
Survival depends on the mode of play chosen. If you want a purely narrative experience, History Mode does not provide timers and guarantees that you cannot die, allowing you to live history without pressure. In Standard Mode, however, everything depends on your reflections. In high-voltage moments, a time bar that is reduced to the top of the screen forces you to quickly locate an interactive object in the room. If you can’t find it in time, you’ll die, but instead of a definitive game over, you’ll just start from the last checkpoint.
