On Monday, July 6th, 1 No Way Up – No way out, a 2024 survival thriller directed by Swiss director Claudio Fäh. Distributed internationally with the original title No Way Up, the film proposes a combination of disaster movie, claustrophobic thriller and survival horror, building its narrative tension around an airplane crash that turns into a struggle for survival on the bottom of the ocean.
Presented as a meeting between classic catastrophic cinema and shark film, No Way Up sets much of its action within the fuselage of a plane crashed into the Pacific Ocean, where a group of survivors must face not only the lack of oxygen, but also a threat from the outside. In this way the film alternates claustrophobic suspense sequences at moments of action and survival, developing a story that focuses mainly on entertainment and narrative rhythm.

The protagonist of the story is Ava, daughter of the governor of California, who is traveling to Los Cabos, Mexico, accompanied by his bodyguard Brandon and some friends. During the flight, however, an impact with a flock of birds causes an accident that leads the plane to crash into the Pacific Ocean.
Few passengers survive the crash and find themselves trapped in the back of the fuselage, sealed and rested on the bottom of the sea. While oxygen reserves decline rapidly, the group must find a way to escape and face a further threat: the presence of sharks around the wreck. The struggle for survival thus turns into a race against time, in which every decision can be fatal.

To play the protagonist Ava is Sophie McIntosh, flanked by Colm Meaney in the role of the bodyguard Brandon. The cast also featured Will Attenborough as Kyle, Jeremias Amoore as Jed, Manuel Pacific as the flight attendant Danilo, Grace Nettle as the young Rosa and Phyllis Logan as Mardy, nicknamed “Nana”.
The director is signed by Claudio Fäh, author of action and genre cinema, while the script was written by Andy Mayson. The film was filmed mainly in the UK and debuted in international cinemas in 2024.
