Fifty years after Seveso’s disaster, HBO Max brings one of the most dramatic pages of Italian history to the screen. The platform announced the original docuserie Seveso – The disaster of dioxin, a production in three episodes that traces the incident on July 10, 1976 at ICMESA, destined to become one of the most serious chemical-environmental disasters ever caused by man. The series will be available shortly exclusively on HBO Max.
The new production reconstructs not only the dynamics of the accident, but also the environmental, health and social consequences that have marked the territory of Brianza and the entire country. Through documents, testimonies and a story that intertwines news and memory, the docuserie faces an event that has changed the way to look at industrial safety and environmental protection.
Il disastro che ha cambiato la storia ambientale italiana
On July 10, 1976, an accident at the ICMESA chemical plant in Meda, controlled by a Swiss multinational company, caused the release in the atmosphere of a large amount of dioxin, a non-known but highly toxic substance. In the following days, the serious consequences of contamination on people, animals and territory emerged, while the authorities and leadership of the company were accused of having initially underestimated the scope of the event.
The docuserie traces the phases of the emergency, the difficulties in managing the crisis and the repercussions that the disaster had in the following years, recalling how the tragedy of Seveso helped to change European legislation on industrial safety and prevention of environmental risks.
Una docuserie in tre episodi
Seveso – The disaster of dioxin is an original production HBO Max made by Fandango in association with Feltrinelli. The series is produced by Domenico Procacci and Laura Paolucci, while the script is signed by Chiara Battistini, Matteo Liuzzi, Niccolò Martin and Fabio Ragazzo. The direction is entrusted to Chiara Battistini herself.
The project was born from the podcast Seveso – La Chernobyl of Italy, original production Audible, transforming the audio story into a docuserie that deepens one of the most significant events in the Italian history of the second post-war period.
